Two years ago, when I directed a music video for one of @fpc_ank ’s tracks, I never imagined that @psbtindia would accept my proposal and provide the funding to create a film about ANK. Over the course of a year, we completed the film, and I had the privilege of getting to know ANK as an artist on a much deeper level. His honesty, passion, and dedication to his craft are truly inspiring. I can’t thank @uncombedbuddha and the @footprint.crew.india enough for their invaluable contributions. This film was made possible by the sincere efforts of every professional who worked on it, often compromising on their fees. I am deeply grateful to everyone involved. Now, I am excited to share the trailer for our labor of love, the documentary film “Mic Drop,” and look forward to screening it near you soon. The day @impolite_ajen called and asked me to come down to Alwar to see a movement unfolding in the surrounding villages, I had no idea what I was heading into. But the moment I reached, I found myself standing among women whose lives were wrapped in colour veils yet lived in monochrome. In a place where a woman cannot step out of her house without a man beside her, I watched a group of women gently, stubbornly, courageously push open doors and claiming their rights to work under the MGNREGA scheme. What struck me first was the resistance. What stayed with me was the solidarity. That unspoken bond among them became the seed for this film. This whole year, we followed Bhagyashree one among many women of this land, who rose each day to challenge the men in her home, the men in power, and the centuries-old weight pressing on her shoulders. Her fight to claim what is rightfully hers became my window into a world that is changing and constantly resisting. As Virginia Woolf once wrote, “For most of history, Anonymous was a woman.” This film is, in many ways, about the women who refuse to remain anonymous any longer. Mic Drop is headed to Toronto for its Canada Premiere at the prestigious IFFSA Toronto. The film will premiere on October 16th at 7 PM and will be available for online screening in the Canadian region. This festival has always been a significant event for Indian cinema, and this year it opens with Shyam Benegal’s ‘Mandi’. I’m excited to share my film alongside a stellar lineup that includes ‘All We Imagined as Light’ by Payal Kapadia, ‘Padatik’ by Srijit Mukherji, and ‘Little Thomas’ by Kaushal Oza. Our film “Mic Drop” stops next at Washington DC for the 9th South Asian Film Festival @dcsaff The film will compete in the short documentary category and will be screened both offline and online in the USA. The detailed schedule will be out soon and the festival is scheduled next month. I extend my gratitude to everyone involved with the film. It took us one year, from mentoring to shooting and completing the film, to reach this point. Sharing the poster of our documentary film “Mic Drop,” exactly one year after we began this journey. The film follows the observational journey of Bundelkhandi rapper @fpc_ank from Jabalpur, who works tirelessly on his first album. As he faces financial struggles and a lack of resources, the question remains: will he be able to make it, and at what cost? I am thankful to @psbtindia for mentoring and selecting us for the grant to make this film; @uncombedbuddha for supporting when it mattered the most and @footprint.crew.india for always being on their toes for the film.
