I first met the most of the Mongrel guys when they were in World of Pain and recorded their original demo with @taylorxyoung (who also produced the new Mongrel record, so that’s another full circle thing) and in another iconic San Diego band called Life or Death.
We played in a band called Ruckus at the time and immediately connected over basically all of the same influences, so we started work on a 3-way split between World of Pain, Ruckus, and Xibalba that would become known as “The Earthquake Split”… it’s still good 💯
Nearly 20 years later, we’ve all gone on to be in tons of other bands and played dozens of shows together, so witnessing MONGREL form as the finalized creative evolution of this incredibly talented group in real time has been an inspiring honor.
This record is the result of a lifetime of love for the hardest music in the world and it immediately shows. Thanks to @dazeofthefuturespast for letting us tag in and be part of this instant classic.
