Would your younger self be proud of you?
Last year, I went through a diary I kept when I was 13 and wept. I had been young, full of life, competitive, hopeful and full of dreams.
Going through that diary made me weep. Not good, nostalgic tears but ugly ones. Tears of disappointment, and resignation, and failure.
I couldnāt shake off the feeling that I was failing myself. I, Monalisa Jideofor, was supposed to be more. To be doing more. To be living better.
But I wasnāt and so I cried.
Iām in tears as I type this but this time itās good tears. Nothing astronomical has happened between now and when I went through the diary last year, but I have put things in perspective.
The cup isnāt half empty. Itās half full. I have so much to be grateful for. Life, hope, opportunities, family, and joy in my spirit.
Younger Mona would definitely be proud of meš„¹.

Michael Jackson will forever be a legend. Even before the current MJ buzz, Iād occasionally go on a Michael rememberance spree and deeply grieve that he is truly no more.
