When formal systems stop working, neighbors turn to each other 💜 We’re honored to be featured by the Associated Press in a story about how communities across the country are practicing what many now call mutual aid. At Collective Focus, that looks like: 🥕 millions of pounds of rescued food redistributed 👕 clothing + housewares recycled back into the neighborhood 🧼 hygiene + household essentials for families who need them 🎨 creative, cultural, and healing spaces led by and for the community Mutual aid is not an underground movement it’s one of the oldest ways people have survived: sharing resources, protecting one another, and making sure no one is forgotten. As we enter our fundraising season, we’re asking you to help keep this work going into 2026: 🔗 Read the AP article (link in bio) 💸 Donate if you’re able – every dollar supports direct resources + operations 🔁 Share this post to keep mutual aid front and center Thank you to everyone who has stood with us, volunteered, donated, organized, or simply shown up at the hub. This feature is your story too. El tiempo es ahora. We keep us safe💜

@retreat.maia Costa Rica 🌿✨ There are moments when life gently calls you out of the rush… out of the noise… out of the constant doing… and invites you back into your body, your breath, your truth. This retreat was that invitation. To slow down. To listen. To remember. This piece of paper holds a schedule… but what it really carries are the moments in between morning yoga flows as the jungle woke up around us, meditation that softened the mind, workshops that opened new doors, cacao ceremonies that cracked the heart open, and meals made from the freshest foods, fruits, and ingredients straight from the land. We nourished ourselves in every way. Body. Mind. Spirit. From sweet tropical fruits… to grounding cacao… to laughter shared over meals… to stillness shared in presence. Through winding roads, shifting weather, and all the unexpected turns… we made our way to something deeper than a destination. We found connection. We found reflection. We found each other. We arrived as individuals, each holding our own stories, weights, and questions… and somehow, through presence and shared energy, we left feeling like one. There is something sacred about gathering in intention. About choosing to be seen. About allowing yourself to soften in community. I am so deeply grateful for each soul that was part of this journey. You all brought something unique, something necessary, something beautiful. And now… we return. Not as who we were but as who we are becoming. So wherever you are now, in your own rhythm, in your own space… remember this: The seeds have been planted. 🌱 In your mind. In your body. In your spirit. Be patient with them. Be gentle with yourself. Water them with intention, with love, with consistency. What is meant to grow… will. With deep gratitude 🤍✨

🥢✨ Zongzi Workshop Recap ✨🥢 This weekend we gathered in community to celebrate Lunar New Year through food, culture, and storytelling. Participants learned the art of folding, filling, and wrapping zongzi traditional Chinese sticky rice dumplings wrapped in bamboo leaves guided by the wonderful Kathy Yuan from @Wei Collective. Graciously hosted by @signal From prepping ingredients to sharing knowledge while the dumplings cooked, the room was filled with curiosity, laughter, and connection. These moments remind us how food can bring people together across cultures and generations. We’re also happy to share that this workshop reached its fundraising goal and raised funds to support our community programming at Collective Focus. Thank you to everyone who attended, donated, shared the event, and helped make this gathering possible. More cultural workshops and community events coming soon. ❤️ #CollectiveFocus #LunarNewYear #Zongzi #FoodAsCulture #BrooklynCommunity Bushwick CommunityCooking Fundraiser CommunityCare

ZONGZI FOR BEDSTUY MUTUAL AID (3/1) @signalnyc — all proceeds to free food access in Brooklyn @collectivefocushub 🧧 Sharing five generations of my family’s Sichuan 粽子 (zòngzi), the way my 祖祖 (zǔzǔ) maternal great-grandmother taught my mother and she taught me; the way a distant uncle who’s been wrapping and selling zongzi longer than I’ve been alive learned it from his mother in the same town; the way a new family-run business a 15min bike ride from my nainai continues to make it today. 🧨 In the lead up to Spring Festival, when people here make, eat, and send zongzi as part of New Year tradition, my uncle’s operation is akin to Valentine’s Day for florists. In a month he can make five figures just folding zongzi for wholesale companies that restaurants and businesses order through, as well as private clients. On average it takes him 10 seconds to wrap a single zongzi from start to end. I’ll be sharing our family recipe and teaching this method, but we encourage creative free-for-all on bundling practices. Expect discussion on trans-Pacific plant-wrapped steamed foods (and rice & beans supremacy)! One woman’s bamboo leaf is another’s banana leaf is another’s corn husk is another’s… come and help us fill in the blanks 🎋🌽 📍Sunday 3/1, 12-2pm 175 Morgan Ave @signalnyc Link in bio, sliding scale fundraiser $35-50 We’ll make, cook, eat and take home plenty of zongzi! Ft. special guest star Long Adams @long__pang repping Guangxi 💫 Giveaway to follow for workshop participants 🎁

Back in November, we had the chance to visit Rethink Food, and the experience has stayed with me. I was welcomed in the most grounding way with a delicious, nourishing lunch as soon as I arrived. A simple gesture that says so much about how care is practiced there. Food is memory. Food is survival. Food is how communities hold each other through hard seasons. Meeting Ken Baker again felt especially meaningful. We first connected months earlier through the Thirdspace Food Access Panel, where we gathered in conversation about how food distribution is being used to address food insecurity across Brooklyn and how community needs are actively shaping the way forward. Ken is the Culinary Director at Rethink Food, leading their Sustainable Community Kitchen, where nutritious, culturally sensitive meals are prepared for New Yorkers in need. His journey spans from cooking for a U.S. president to feeding university students, and his work is rooted in a deep commitment to equity, dignity, and visibility ensuring people feel seen through the food they receive. Sharing space, stories, and thoughtful conversation was a reminder that so much wisdom lives in kitchens in the hands that cook, the systems that support them, and the relationships built along the way. To see meals prepared with intention, resources flowing back to kitchens, and care moving through systems this is what it looks like when nourishment is treated as a human right, not a privilege. Leaving inspired, grounded, and reminded that feeding people is sacred work. 🍽️✨

We’re holding so much gratitude right now. With your support, Collective Focus reached — and surpassed — our fundraiser goal: ✨ $51,867 raised (103% of our $50,000 goal) ✨ 89 supporters showed up At a time when so many families are still feeling the ripple effects of food insecurity, rising costs, and stretched resources, this outpouring of support reminds us that community is still our strongest infrastructure. This funding directly sustains our food distribution, community fridges, volunteers, and essential neighborhood programs. It allows us to keep showing up consistently, with dignity, and with care. Thank you for choosing collective care over scarcity. Thank you for believing in this work. We move forward together. 🌱✨
