You’ve probably heard it before the beat even drops– that familiar call echoing through a subway car: “Showtime!”
But behind that moment, behind the flips, footwork, and raw electricity that define New York street performance, is a deeper story. It’s a story built on family, resilience, and a dance style born in Harlem, elevated in the Bronx, and now reaching audiences around the world. At the center of that story is the W.A.F.F.L.E. Crew.
“We Are Family For Life Entertainment.” That’s what WAFFLE stands for, as Jacob Israel, stage name known as Andrew “Goofy” Saunders, explains. It’s more than a name, it’s a philosophy that has carried the crew from subway platforms to global stages.

It’s almost customary—every couple of weeks, you’re on the subway when all of a sudden, “It’s showtime!” A group of men start swinging through the car, dancing between passengers and pulling off flips without grazing anyone. That’s litefeet! An energetic dance form that originated in Harlem in the early 2000s. Today, @wafflenyc are emblems of the scene, and one of their members is working to bring that energy back to the community.
@moeblack_ hosted a free beginner litefeet class last week at Poe Park in the Grand Concourse. We caught up with him off the dance floor to talk about the roots of litefeet, what got him started, and how the genre has shaped broader New York City culture.
Interested in joining Moe’s class? Keep an eye on his Instagram for updates on the next session.
