I love the winter picnic so much - seems to be a story involving a single mom (w the most beautiful illustrations!!) which is how I grew up - the colors and life of this really resonated w me and made me think of my childhood-independent imaginative play in a colorful bohemian home w my mom @peteyrosebar the Ezra jack Keats pet show book also so so beautiful!! Giant jam sandwich was one of my fave books growing up (along w Ralph steadmans Jelly Book - I liked books w surreal food narratives clearly-his illustrations are incredible and delightful! Look it up if you have never seen it)
Henry Threadgill at the moma screening of Phil Nilblock’s sun ra movie / Archie shepp in Algiers and Cecil Taylor in Paris in 68! Incredible inspiring visions and I wish I had taped his entire intro but I was too transfixed! This part is just about Cecil. His stories about growing up in Chicago and hiding out to listen to sun ra with his friends and none of them feeling the cold because they were too inside the music and excited! And the way he talked about how Archie shepp wasn’t classically trained but “it doesn’t matter how you put together the ingredients as long as the food tastes good!” I am gonna get his book! #henrythreadgill
