It’s time for part 2 of my tour of this mid-century-modern time-capsule house in Barrington, Illinois. In part 1 I covered the the stunning, wood-paneled main living area (complete with original built-ins, a cantilevered fireplace, and indoor grill) as well as the kitchen, indoor/outdoor party room, and the first two bedrooms. And in part 2, I’m pick up right where we left off at the primary suite — where you’ll find (among many other goodies including built-in dressers and atomic style sconces) the home’s only, all original bathroom, which has THE most stunning MCM mosaic tiles. I’ll also be exploring the rumpus room, and a study where you can still find original blueprints and sketches left behind by the homes architect/former owner William Cooley.

At long last, here is my FULL tour of this amazing, mid-century-modern dream home in North Barrington, Illinois. This place is a TIME-CAPSULE, built in 1955 with a near-original interior complete with wood paneling;built-ins;clerestory windows; and so much more. My favorite feature is the monumental, cantilevered fireplace, located in the center of the home with a massive, polished brass vent. Other features include an indoor/outdoor bar/party room, a bathroom with vintage fixtures and mosaic tilework, a basement den with a hidden projection screen, and an study (where I found some sketches created by the home’s architect!) What’s your favorite part?

The coveted Indian Canyon neighborhood has always been home to those who dared to dream. Development began on the Indian Canyons Neighborhood in the early 1960s. In 1962, The Canyon Country Club (now known as the Indian Canyons North Course) golf course, opened and its now iconic clubhouse was designed by famed architects Donald Wexler and Richard Harrison. It was the first 18-hole golf course in Palm Springs. It drew the ‘who’s who’ of Hollywood, including Fess Parker and Walt Disney.
Hal Lacy designed this home in 1974 full of elegant amenities like a raised dining room and a sunken bar. He also set the stage for drama with its striking entry colonnade. Today it’s been revived as a retro dream home full of signature style and bold design details by Midcentury Modern real estate expert Lou Zucaro of @modernil who has dedicated his work to celebrating and preserving Midcentury Modern gems in the midwest. Here he brings his mod paradise to life in the desert.

Sunday’s modern homes tour with brunch by @chefgalegand was fantastic! Guests toured two beautiful modern homes in Highland Park, Illinois. One by architect Irving Moses, and another by architects Keck & Keck.
At the Irving Moses-designed house, seen here, Chef Gand prepared a delicious Spanish-themed brunch that people were lining up for and raving about. Guests toured the house and enjoyed brunch & socializing with each other on the backyard patio.
There are so many people who worked hard to make this event a success! Chef Gand for her delicious food, Jickie, Rima and Emma from @theatomicranch for their “On the Road” tour program and dedication to fostering appreciation of these amazing properties, Lex and Meg from @chicagomodernistcollective for continuing in the spirit of the OG Chicago Bauhaus & Beyond, my friends and former Chicago Bauhaus and Beyond colleagues Randi and Allen for their tireless work and help with all the things AND their hospitality, Charles from @slow.dimes for his lovely staging of this home, and, of course, the homeowners of these terrific homes, who graciously allowed the tours to happen in the first place.
