Congratulations to Hing and Jazmin on your beautiful union of both cultures in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico with our founder, artistic director, and teaching artist, Neak Kru @_mealath with special guest performer, Neak Kru @virginiaprak from Angkor Dance Troupe in Lowell, MA.
Inspired by the traditional Cambodian blessing dance, Robam Chun Por, our music and choreography are thoughtfully adapted and created specifically for this sacred and celebratory moment.
Modern Apsara Company’s priority is to present Cambodian classical dance in elevated artistic spaces and meaningful community celebrations. On special occasions—and with clients whose intentions align with the spirit of the tradition, we also perform for weddings, offering a wedding blessing dance for the couple on their special day.
In the Steps of An Apsara was never just a book idea.
It was born in rehearsal halls.
In quiet moments backstage.
In the soft sound of silk brushing against the floor.
It was inspired by every young classical performer who ties their sampot or k-ben with pride, who bends their fingers with patience, who practices long after the music fades.
This story honors the dedication of our dancers: their discipline, their grace, their courage to carry tradition forward.
It is rooted in the guidance of our Neak Krus (@modernapsaraco ) whose teachings are more than movement. They are history. They are responsibility. They are love passed down through careful hands. 🙏🏽
And it is strengthened by the wisdom of grandparents: the storytellers, the memory keepers, the ones who remind us that culture is not something we visit. It is something we live.
May every child who opens these pages feel the rhythm of heritage beneath their feet. 🙏🏽
