Have you ever been in a situation where you see a logo and you just can't help but see if you can improve it? I took a shot at redesigning the logomark of a company that deals in gift cards and crypto trading, just for practice. Their current logo had three clear ideas: giftcards, the letter G, and an ascending arrow. I decided to keep all three but refine them into something more balanced and cleaner. You know that annoyingly unsatisfying feeling when you love an idea, but it doesn’t get picked, and you just can’t let it go? That's how I feel when looking at this. I created this numbering system for a collaborative project that I and a few of my designer friends worked on. You know, one of those “this is going to be BIG” kind of ideas (that quietly vanish into the group chat abyss). Every digit was tweaked just enough to feel bold and a little bit rebellious. This was one of the rejected versions, but I wonder what it would look like if it ever got used. This is just me doing a throwback while also making sure I satisfy my curiosity of seeing the numbers in action. Not all good logo ideas get accepted… and that’s okay. Here’s what I mean: Late last year, a friend plugged me into a collab with a client he was working with. While we were handling our part of the gig, I noticed their visual identity was not up to standards for a global brand for me (i say for me since design is subjective), and so I decided to work on improving it. After taking a look at their current logomark, I noticed the things that stood out were a dancer and a musical note, but the combination felt a little too bland without any personality (looked like a simplified version of the female dancer emoji on keypads). I decided to keep the core elements but add more details to it to give it more personality, which was inspired by the brand's origin and the niche of service they offer. Long story short? I proposed it, and the client was like “Hmm… we’ll stick with the old one.” But I still love the work. Sometimes the client says no.
