This past weekend has been a major highlight in my life and career! I finally got to play with the Branford Marsalis Quartet. Thanks Mom for capturing this video!

I’m so thankful I was able to play with Brian one last time when I was on leave and visiting NC! Playing @kingfisherdurham on Tuesday nights with Brian were some of the best hangs/sessions/lessons. You would never know what song he was about to play but he would always set it up perfectly and you would know when to come in. There were many times that I learned the tune on the bandstand as Brian would outline the changes in such a way that you could catch it, but it forced me to really listen and become a strong active listener while in the moment. He was a master at setting the atmosphere and captivating his audience. When he played, you listened and it would take you on a musical journey. His trust in me allowed me to be fully expressive in my playing…it taught me how to lead and follow all at the same time, how to demand and command, yet fall back and follow. I could go on and on!
