This shoot was very important to me. I had just recently lost my dad and had only buried him a few weeks prior, so the opportunity to do this shoot with @nholh_yalhalhj helped me cope and process my feelings. Our focal point were crosses, and in this shoot I used the silver cross the priest bestowed each my siblings with during my dads funeral. In this shoot I wanted to articulate my feelings of loss and mourning, and was definitely feeling like the llorona. Ever so much that someone yelled out “AYEE MIS HIJOS” out their car lmao. My dad enjoyed wearing make up and would wear it in public like at our sports games, amusement parks, or just out and about. I draw a lot of influence from his “no fuck to give” attitude and his own looks. My looks often draw from my own emotions, I’m glad how this shoot helped capture them as I quite literally wear them on my face (and there’s still more photos!). I’ve been waiting since July to share these, so if you get that chance, stop by @losangelesnightsss for their Dia De Los Muertos event.
