This week I had the opportunity to work with @mmustard in reframing my piece at the @nypl for the 250 exhibition. The show is a fantastic representation of contemporary art in response to the complexity of our country’s anniversary. Go see the show if you are in NY. Thank you, Maggie, and congratulations to all the artists.

At sunrise this morning, the first day of spring, Niko passed on. He was warm and snug in bed with Ben and me, and the last thing he heard was Felix telling him “thank you for being a good kitty.”
He was a good kitty. We met him when he was 10-ish days old, pulled from a wall by some construction workers in Williamsburg next to the old Vice offices. We hand-raised him in an open carry-on suitcase on the floor until he was big and strong enough to explore on his own. He lived 15 years, was with us through Bushwick, Greenpoint, New Hamburg, our wedding and the birth of Ezzy and Fe. He was picky about his people, but he softened up in older age, wonderfully tolerant and oddly protective of the twins.
He loved tuna fish, deli turkey, kale, and sheep screaming (walking around the house yelling with his sheep stuffie in his mouth). He hated the vet (luckily he almost never got sick). He never weighed more than 7 pounds, but often acted like he was six times bigger. He loved Ben more than I have ever seen any animal love a person before.
We are heartbroken, and so lucky to have been able to be with him through the remarkable, singular experience of his dying. We love you, Niko. Thank you for being a good kitty.
