FALL 2017 / PE SCHOOLED : gym class and worn ball courts become the setting and present a style of dressing that reflects a mashup between sportswear and activewear.
Originally inspired by a hike in Palm Springs : it’s dry, rocky and dramatic landscape and the photos taken during that trip provide a dramatic backdrop to a collage of color, fabric and technique that became Spring 17.
“Florals for Spring ? Groundbreaking…” Spring 2017 started with the colors, Army and Navy and then softened these pillars with unusual fabrics and non traditional layering. I loved playing with collage techniques both in sketch form and print combinations—botanicals and graphic florals, spray techniques and appliqué. The presentation’s set was a larger than life garden contrasting with a raw industrial space.
Incorporating some of my blurred photographs as prints, mixed with Diebenkorn paintings and the faded colors of shipping containers all collage together in a carefully styled design proposition conveying a nod to the relaxed sophistication of the work of the brand’s founder Perry Ellis.
