As we continue our celebration of 30 years of DC public charter schools, its time to spotlight @mmbdapcs !
This first picture was shot in 2009 during their first 8th grade trip to Kenya at the Equator, followed by a field experience to Tudor House, a trip to the National Academy of Sciences in 2006, and lastly a visit to the Japanese Culture Center in 2005.
This weekend, we proudly celebrated the grand finale of our Saturday Academy! 🎉
A heartfelt thank you to our incredible teachers and dedicated students who showed up week after week, to accelerate learning and prepare for upcoming assessments.
We wrapped up the program with some well-deserved fun—DIY slushies and engaging in an exciting airplane design contest, thanks to the DMV @nsbe_jr and @howardnsbe Chapters, along with @engineering.tomorrow ✈️
It was a busy day as we also hosted Enrollment Saturday and welcomed the Capital Area Food Bank for our monthly distribution—supporting both our school community and families beyond the classroom. On March 5, 1985, Mary McLeod Bethune made history again. She was honored with a 22-cent commemorative postage stamp issued on March 5th as part of the USPS Black Heritage Series. She became only the second Black woman ever featured on a U.S. postage stamp.
A trailblazing educator, advisor to presidents, and champion for Black advancement, her legacy continues to deliver inspiration across generations.

The @universityofdc@nsbeudc chapter teamed up with the #DMV @nsbe_jr Chapter to host an inspiring day of innovation at MMBDA.
Scholars designed and tested bridges that held over 55 pounds of weight! They also learned from guest speakers, mechanical engineer Dr. Ericsson and civil engineer Mr. Davis.
