It’s been a minute since I’ve posted on the grid.
Some of you know me well, some just in passing —so here’s a (re)introduction. My name is Mai-Lan, pronounced “my-lahn.” I’ve long called myself a “creative type”-not quite an artist, not a committed photographer, but someone who cares a lot about how things are made, how they’re installed, how they’re seen and most importantly, how they’re experienced.
I wear a few hats (like most of us in the arts). Maybe you met me as an art facilitator/educator, or recognize my hands from the NGC’s marketing photos I shot and modelled for. Or maybe we crossed paths while I supported the curation and installation of a few local exhibits. However we connected, I’m thankful you’re here reading this.
I’m used to being the one in my friend group who is always up to something different, and this year, the year of the fire horse, I’m finally embracing it. I’ve stepped away from working for large institutions, and rather, I’m leaning fully into working independently as a creative consultant. It’s an intentionally vague title because the work shifts all the time as each artist, each project and every day looks different, and I’m here for it!
📷 A huge thanks to
@alexamazzarellostudio for capturing these new portraits. I’ve had the pleasure of working closely with her for over a year now. Witnessing her creative practice while quietly discovering my own path.
As someone who’s often behind the camera (rarely in front of it), getting my portrait taken by her was... nearly painless. Just kidding, it’s how every headshot session should go: efficient, collaborative, and actually fun.
Follow her
@alexamazzarellostudio & book yourself a session to update your portraits!
