We were in the middle of a particularly challenging sound check when we heard the news of @bobweir ’s passing. Needless to say it hit us really hard. 💔
We had a set list planned - but everything changed in that moment and we did our very best to honor the moment, the legacy, and to tap into the community that was surrounding us to provide the collective catharsis we all needed.
Special thanks to @markmercier48 of @max_creek for joining us on a bunch of songs and bringing not only his virtuosic piano stylings but his love and energy on a night when we needed all the love and energy we could get. 🎹
Special thanks to @jackejarvis on drums for joining us these past four nights and just giving it all he had - it’s an absolute joy when we get to share the stage with him. 🥁
After a few heartfelt words from both David Mendelsohn and @garrinbenfield , reflecting on what the moment meant to them personally and focusing the room, the band launched into an emotional Brokedown Palace, setting the night with a fitting Fare Thee Well to the man who gave us all so much...
And then rocked out to the Cold Rain and Snow that was happening at the time outside our warm barn of clustered souls, ironically evoking the warmth of the present and our crazy wonderful shared community.
Of course Bobby died on a Saturday night, so the encore got shifted to reflect that. This was the first Saturday night most of us have been around without Bobby somewhere out there with us...but on this night the music endures...and One More Saturday Night will echo forevermore.
