Join me for my weekly dose of Chaos & Culture on THE NANCY STEVENS LIFESTYLE SHOW🎙️
Get ready for a jam-packed show today at 3pm. I’m talking everything from deep life transitions to the sheer madness of the morning swim. Here’s what’s on the menu:
* Empty Nest Syndrome: Dealing with the quiet after your kids leave home, tbh I’m finding it really hard since my boys left home & navigating that “empty nest” feeling and finding your next chapter. 🏠
* Devil Wears Prada Vibes: We’re getting stylish! Channeling our inner Miranda Priestly to talk about fashion that actually makes a statement. 👠👗
* Escape room: I’ll be recounting my (hopefully successful) attempt at the Great Train Robbery escape room. 🚂
* Sunday Swimmers... What the Actual Hell? I’m discussing the bizarre habits of Sunday morning swimmers, plain madness? 🏊♀️
* @prueleith Latest: I interviewed Prue before she joined Bake Off & when I read her books, I can “hear” her. Does her latest book from Waterstones Mk deliver? Being Old... and Learning to Love It!
* Traitors Takeover: I met the brilliant @harriet_tyce crime novelist and legendary “Faithful” from the latest series of The Traitors at @mklitfest . 🕵️♀️🔍
Tune in today at 3:00 PM on Horizon radio or watch on YouTube (link in bio) You won’t want to miss it.

One of the lovely things about children’s book events is the little bits of insight you get that you’d never learn just from reading the story.
At the weekend we met Nizrana Farook @nizrite at a children’s event at @mklibraries as part of @mklitfest (which I’m hoping becomes a regular thing — it’s so nice having book events like this locally for kids).
Josh first discovered Niz’s books when his class read The Girl Who Stole an Elephant together at school this year, in year four. If you haven’t come across the series before, the books so far are:
📚 The Girl Who Stole an Elephant
📚 The Boy Who Met a Whale
📚 The Girl Who Saved a Leopard
📚 The Boy Who Saved a Bear
(All illustrated by our favourite: @daviddeanillustration )
A few things I didn’t realise before hearing her speak:
• All of the stories are inspired by the landscapes and wildlife of Sri Lanka, where Nizrana grew up
• Each book centres around a large animal, which become important to the adventure
• The stories weave in themes of friendship, bravery, kindness and protecting wildlife
So while children are enjoying a fast-paced adventure story, they’re also discovering a little about another country, its culture, and the incredible animals that live there.
Nizrana also shared that she’s working on her next book — but this time it won’t be a continuation of this series.
If you have a young reader who loves adventure stories (or animals!), this series is a brilliant one to explore.
Save this for the next time you’re looking for a great children’s book series 📚
