Another rainy, now sleeting evening means a couple more hours at the shop. Pulled the tank, battery, a few other bits the other day. Tonight was focused on the front end disassembly to knock out the fork upgrades.
It's been a while since I've really pulled things apart on this, so I'm needing to go at it a little bit slow as I familiarize myself with it all again. There were some misguided mallet blows without first loosening some clamp bolts that made me remember it's better to take a full assessment of what you're looking at rather than trying to dive right in based on a limited memory. Oddly, that was somewhat a theme of at least a few conversations at the day job today.
We're always running to accomplish the next thing. Often, I think we might be better off taking a step back, take it all in, assess, then make your next move.
Trying to do that more in 2026.
Not trying to turn this into a philosophical trend either, but it landed a bit more than expected today.
Let's get after it...thoughtfully!
Picked up some vintage cast iron from the estate and auction company Turnkey Liquidators. We cook on cast iron 75% of the time, potentially more and I've been craving a CI resto project for a while. These beauties definitely scratched the itch!
Some good elbow grease involved but the near glass-smooth surface of these is awesome to cook on and is easily better than any chemical non-stick surface out there. Slidey eggs for days!
Can your car do this?! I need to make an account for all the things I've carried in Honda Elements over the years. Elsie here is truly wonderful, as her namesake has always shown!
Taking Beatrix over to Uptahn to get some metal bits welded on, then off to Mr. Comfy for some padding and leather action. π€πΌπ€πΌπ€πΌπ€πΌπ«ΆπΌ
Came across a post apocalyptic playground on our Sunday Scaries ride. Conveniently located near a delicious libation station...
Could also be a CrossFit gym π€·π»ββοΈ

From Cardboard to Metal
Finally fabbing the seat pan for the '77 R100/7. I've had this beautiful @analogmotorcycles subframe for a few years but ran into timing challenges every winter to make it happen. In early spring I decided to get started and forced myself to rip the old one off thinking it would also force the finish. Of course, timing and other projects took priority and I've missed most of the riding season while Beatrix sat patiently waiting.
Last night I was able to dedicate a few hours to measuring, drawing and cutting. Pretty happy with the results, but hoping I didn't lob the tail end off too short to account for the contours of the subframe.
You can even see the cardboard I used as the template came from the box Analog shipped the subframe in a few years ago π
Next stop, @uptahn_metalworks for some custom pannier frames π€πΌ
