In my 20s, I fell hard for India and Afghanistan. I didn’t want to leave, so I figured out how to stay. I built Hindu Kush—a clothing line rooted there. I needed to make a living, and this was how I did it.
It became wildly successful and taught me more than any classroom ever could.
The business survived truly unbelievable turmoil (those stories are in my book UNPLUGGED) but in the end, Jimmy Carter’s embargo destroyed it. I had to return to the States and start over.
I went bankrupt…and then it was off to MTV…
Huge thanks to Michael Kassan for the great conversation.
Today would have been my Sister Lyn's 80th Birthday. A day does not go by without my thinking of Lynda. I miss her warmth, her smile and her "Neshuma". She would be so proud of her children and grandchildren-Her true dividends. Here's to you Lyn.🍸❤️🎂🍸❤️🎂
"Thank heaven for little girls, they grow up in the most amazing way......"
Wishing the Happiest of Birthdays to my daughter. Love you and am in awe of the person you are. ❤️🎂❤️🎂

This photo brings back many fond memories of time spent with two icons, Quincy Jones and especially General Colin Powell, whom we sadly lost this week. A rare individual who was both commanding and endlessly kind. He lived the American dream, rising to one of the highest offices in the land, and paid it forward through America's Promise Alliance, which has become the nation's largest partnership focused on the well-being of young people. A true American icon who will be missed but whose legacy lives on. My thoughts are with his family.
