Grateful that Lou won Best Beirut Sparks Film. It means a lot to see this story reach people the way it did. But Lou wasn’t born from something easy. It came from a place I struggled to understand from years of living with ADHD, from the chaos of a mind that never sits still. For a long time, I didn’t know how to talk about it. So instead, I built characters who could. To the Cast, Crew, famille et amis merci🫂❤️‍🩹. And thank you to everyone who helped bring Lou to life, for their patience and belief when things got hard. Thank you to the jury @carolinelabaki @elsazgheib and to @beirutshorts @samlahoud @doris_saba @nicolaskhabbaz for giving us the space to share our stories and the messages behind them. Une génération d’artistes avance aujourd’hui à contre-rythme, sans chercher l’exposition immédiate ni l’accélération artificielle. Elle privilégie la justesse, la durée, la responsabilité. Maria Kassab s’inscrit pleinement dans cette lignée rare. Son cinéma ne naît pas d’un concept, mais d’une nécessité intérieure. Avec Lou, elle transforme une expérience intime, le désordre mental, la difficulté à dire, les silences familiaux, en véritable langage cinématographique. Rien n’y est expliqué. Rien n’y est démontré. Tout repose sur une retenue précise qui impose le respect. Dans son travail, rien ne relève de l’exposition de soi. L’image n’est jamais un miroir narcissique. Elle devient un espace d’écoute. Le cadre accompagne les corps. Le montage relie les fragments. La lumière protège ce qui est fragile au lieu de le surexposer ou de le dramatiser. La reconnaissance obtenue par Lou dans les circuits festival ne constitue pas un aboutissement. Elle marque un point de passage. Ce que Maria Kassab construit s’inscrit dans un temps long, celui d’une voix qui se forme sans se presser, sans se conformer aux injonctions de visibilité ou de rendement. Son approche traverse le cinéma, la photographie et la direction artistique avec une même éthique. Ne jamais trahir la matière humaine travaillée. Ne jamais transformer l’intime en marchandise émotionnelle. Ne jamais confondre sincérité et exposition. Ce travail s’inscrit dans une zone exigeante, où la création suppose une maîtrise du silence autant qu’un sens aigu de la forme. Une démarche qui refuse l’effet immédiat, pour privilégier la cohérence, la densité et la continuité. Well hey, so yesterday was my birthday… but 2 years ago, everything could’ve ended. and i think i’m finally comfortable talking about it. the same dreams i’m chasing today… are the ones that almost cost me my life. and because of that, i’ll be sharing a short video soon. looking back, this year was full of growth and lessons: First, you’re the only person who has to live with the consequences of your decisions. Second, your life was never meant to be linear… and it never will be. i realized that love…it’s everywhere. in people, in places, in moments… in the smallest things that make you feel something.
