We had a fun night at @geco.cafe yesterday; we played some jazz, and welcomed to our stage with some amazing musicians. Our stage continues to host and collaborate with many musicians to explore and bring to life different experiences.

Sometime last month, a few of us got together to create a new music project, based purely on improvisation elements. This was a collaboration between Claudio, Karanja, Kitusa, Pascal and myself, we ended up creating 4 songs.

We made some music! A few weeks ago we made music with @claudioquartaronemusic@pascal_bill@mkaranja_@kitusa_victor_ during a one week collaborative residency.
This was the creation of the project “Rebirth” and exploration of a mostly improvisational sound featuring the elements of our favorite genres and sounds. The first performance video is now up on YouTube! See link in bio.
The musical experiments continue on weekly at @geco.cafe Nairobi’s home of live music - the freedom to play music you have helped create in ways you feel should be played is brave and liberating. Privileged to be on this exploratory journey with collaborators who push things to the absolute limit every time we get on stage to make music.

Rehearsals, how the music comes together. Here’s @pascal_bill@jackmuguna and myself speaking through some arrangements. I find the learning of music theory as a pursuit in itself without practical application a futile exercise, if we don’t show students how to actually apply these concepts. Forget the strange words, music is about sound, music was never made in class. The theory followed later in attempt to put structure and a way of understanding to concepts artists develop and perfect IN PERFORMANCE. My advice to young musicians is to make sure you’re playing some sort of music regularly even as you seek to learn concepts- for these are just tools to help you create SOUND.
