From August 12 through 16, the Joy of Music Program (JOMP) jazz workshop emerged from the depths of summer with rehearsals, hands-on theory and history lessons, and a joyful evening performance which capped off a prolific week.
Students collaborated with faculty member Justin Esiason to deepen their understanding and practice of the Jazz idiom through a practical, historical, and theoretical lens.
An evening concert on Friday August 16th saw the artists of the workshop present a diverse pool of repertoire, tied together by a common thread of historical context and artistic intention. The performance included jazz classics by Coltrane and Ellington, as well as popular tunes recorded by The Ink Spots and JVKE.
