“Gender equality must be practiced - in our stories, our teams, and the opportunities we create.” @mixchavee
Today, we’re celebrating Chavala Yaduma (@mixchavee ) - a Nigerian filmmaker using storytelling to amplify the voices of women and girls. 🎬💛
In 2023, she directed RAIN, a powerful short film confronting child marriage and gender inequality in education. Not only is the message impactful — the film was created with an almost entirely female crew, opening doors for women behind the camera too. ✨
Beyond filmmaking, Chavala mentors young girls through workshops and creative programmes, helping them use storytelling as a tool for advocacy and self‑expression.
Chavala reminds us that representation is about visibility and access, agency, and the courage to challenge systemic barriers. 🇸🇪🇳🇬

SANCTUARY follows the story of Adura, a young girl whose pain is hidden behind the walls of a place meant to feel safe. When Oyin, who has spent years trying to bury her own past, recognizes something familiar in Adura, the past she tried to forget collides with Adura’s present.
Written and Directed by me.
In honor of every survivor of gender-based violence and in memory of those we have lost.
