Now on view at the Wege Gallery through April 24! Liber Floridus featuring Amanda Curreri and Andy Ness! We're open Saturdays 10-4, and M-F 9-4, don't miss this BEAUTIFUL SHOW! Reception April 10 / Gallery Talks April 11 The Wege Gallery presents Liber Floridus with Amanda Curreri and Andy Ness. Featuring woven and textile-based works by Curreri and multimedia works on paper by Ness, the exhibition presents a compendium of the artists’ visual lexicons that include symbols, imagery and pattern rich with personal significance. The exhibition draws inspiration from the Liber Floridus or “Book of Flowers,” a medieval encyclopedia created in Northern France between the 11th and 12th centuries with contents that span geography, mathematics, natural history, astronomy and countless other subjects. Known to be one of the earliest encyclopedias, its marriage of detailed illustrations and text intertwined spiritual knowledge with that of the natural world. In Liber Floridus at the Wege Gallery, the two artists blend content with materiality demonstrating a shared wonder within their processes and evolving subject matter. As an old book might fall open to a repeatedly visited passage, Ness and Curreri revisit specific imagery—references to human and animal bodies, folklore, architecture—while churning it through their own idiosyncratic artistic approaches in the studio. The artists’ processes and materials take on further significance within the context of Liber Floridus as one considers the historical implications within the work. @amanducarreri @iamandyness @miu.art.ma.mfa @maharishiu #wegegallery #maharishiuniversity #miuartdept

Please join us for a Virtual Artist Talk with sTo Len this Saturday, 10 am CST. Visit our website to register for the link. If you’re in Fairfield, let’s call it a watch party, we’ll be there hanging out and talking to sTo on screen. Through a Narrow Window on view at the Wege Gallery through Dec 19. Featuring the work of Sue Hettmansperger, Lilly McElroy, and sTo Len. The exhibition reveals three artists’ approaches to working through topics surrounding the environmental crisis, and a pervasive sense of tension in the face of climate change. Each of the artists takes a deeply personal approach to this immense and widespread issue and use their studio practices to metabolize the blows that can be felt within the scale of individual experience. The artists in the exhibition ultimately seek to ask questions and find agency as contemporary humans. What does it mean to respond, what is a suitable response, how might I use my knowledge, craft, and experiences to suitably address such expansive and insurmountable destruction? For the viewer, the work offers methodologies for fine-tuning one’s awareness, remaining engaged, coping, and resistance. Emerging from a small fissure in the systemic climate issues before us, the exhibition also extends a ray of hope, in which the entire universe can be found. @suehettmansperger @lillymcelroy @stoishere #wegegallery #maharishiuniversity #miuartdept #suehettmansperger #lillymcelroy #stolenartist

SUE HETTMANSPERGER / STO LEN / LILLY McELROY NARROW WINDOW THROUGH A ON VIEW THROUGH DECEMBER 19, 2025 GALLERY TALK WITH LILLY MCELROY Saturday, November 15, 10:00 am - 11:30 am Wege Gallery In conjunction with Through a Narrow Window, Lilly McElroy will give an artist talk on Saturday, Nov 15! Join us for tea :) Lilly McElroy’s work reflects her complex relationship with the American West. Her work explores what it means to be an American in a time of diminished expectations. Working as a lens-based artist, she utilizes the landscape symbolically to address issues of power, gender, and eco-anxiety. The artist’s photographs, installations, performances, and videos acknowledge the possibility of failure in facing the sublime and call its power into question. #wegegallery #maharishiuniversity #miuartdept #suehettmansperger #lillymcelroy #stolenartist @lillymcelroy @stoishere @suehettmansperger

Really enjoying the finer details in Ali Hval’s work. 👄 Rainbow in Limbo featuring Ali Hval, Kyle Agnew, and Marisol Cervantes, is on view at the Wege Gallery through Oct 17! We're open M-F, 10-4, and Sat and Sun 10-4..come see! Ali Hval (she/her) (b. 1993, Sacramento, CA) is a visual artist currently living and working in Iowa City, Iowa. She is currently a Lecturer in Painting and Drawing at the University of Iowa. She earned her MFA from the University of Iowa in Painting and Drawing with honors, and BFA in Painting from the University of Alabama with honors.   Ali has received grants from the Iowa Arts Council as well as from the Windgate Fellowship by the Center of Craft, Creativity, and Design in Asheville, North Carolina. Most recently, she is a recipient of the 2024-2025 Iowa Artist Fellowship. “Growing up in the southern US, I quickly came to understand the expectations of what it meant to “properly” be a woman. Today, my work challenges and redefines those notions, using femininity as a tool to reveal gender disparities and the relentless scrutiny and politicization of the female body. From afar, my work sparkles and seduces with frilly, glittering surfaces. Up close, it reveals layers of political commentary, feminist critique, and the quieter, everyday stories of being a woman.” —Ali Hval #wegegallery #maharishiuniversity #miuartdept #alihval @alihval @kja_photo @marisolcervantesart @genevradaley

KYLE AGNEW / MARISOL CERVANTES / ALI HVAL
RAINBOW IN LIMBO SEPTEMBER 5 - OCTOBER 17, 2025 RECEPTION
Friday, September 12, 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm  GALLERY TALKS WITH KYLE AGNEW & ALI HVAL
Saturday, September 13, 10:00 am - 11:30 am WEEKEND HOURS
Open Saturdays and Sundays, 10:00 am - 4:00 pm through October 12 Rainbow in Limbo brings together the work of artists Kyle Agnew, Marisol Cervantes, and Ali Hval. Presenting photography, sculpture and painting, the exhibition reveals how the artists maneuver around their subject matter—bending and shaping idiosyncratic responses to their own personal histories and present-day realities. The work finds a familiar thread in ideas of the body—bodies in relationship to one another, picked apart and abstracted, as a viewer overlooking the landscape, and extended through adornment and accessories. Offered up as vibrant, sparkly and seductive, the artists’ work plays with viewers’ expectations as a closer look reveals deeper introspection and exploration of contemporary bodies and identities. Indicating the constant necessity to be pliable, amenable, and ever cheerful, the artists in Rainbow in Limbo show their adeptness at flaunting the subtext.
