Kyoto-based lo-fi funk duo mess/age is back with a new cassette EP, “RYOKAN” released via Neji Conga, while their full album from PPU is also on the way.
This summer was brutal, again.
These mellow, heat-warped tracks drift in like a mirage—somewhere between memories of past vacations and paradises you’ve only dreamed about.
Love and nostalgia roll in and out like waves, blending together across these six tracks. Think of it as a late-summer, gently cooling well-wish from Neji Conga—something to rewrite that crazy heat in softer tones.
munguni, who created the artwork and produced the beat for track B1, had released an illustration book on Stones Throw and recently directed the animated music video for Campus Christy’s “Video Games” (2025), the band of PBW.
Design comes from longtime collaborator mitzdate ko, also responsible for mess/age’s PPU-released 7-inch “Hi Wo Kaou / Otiteru”.

今年の夏もキツかったぁ……。
酷暑が見せる白昼夢のように、陽炎めいた旋律が導く風景──それは、かつて訪れた旅先の記憶か、あるいは、これから出会う夢の楽園か。
寄せては返す波のように、愛と記憶がさざめき溶け合う全6曲。〈Neji Conga〉が贈る、キチぃ夏をメロウに上書く季節外れの残暑見舞い。
本作アートワークとB1のビートを手掛け、mess/ageとの邂逅を果たしたmunguni（ムングニ）は、Stones Throwよりイラストブックをリリースするほか、近作として、同レーベルのボスPBWのバンドCampus Christyの楽曲“Video Games”(2025)の全編自作アニメーションMVを手掛けている。
デザインは、PPUからリリースされたmess/ageの7インチも担当した盟友mitzdate ko（ミツダテ コウ)によるもの。
