My artistic process for the animated short documentary @breaking_walls_movie by @jandirkbouw
+2000 frames edited, printed, painted by hand and then scanned.
Breaking Walls tells the fact-based, personal story of journalist and activist Hoi Yi (name changed for safety reasons)as he battles the ever-growing global rise of censorship and surveillance. He speaks out publicly for democratic values but hides his queer identity for his family. The personal repression he faces is reflected in his commitment to the freedom of others.
The film centres on a powerful question: How does oppression shape our identity and inner world, and can it also become a force for change?
Breaking Walls is a poetic and thought-provoking reflection on resistance, identity, and the courage of the human spirit.

"We have painfully followed a live-streamed genocide for almost two years now. We feel sorry to depict these tragic images in our animation, but we did not want to ignore the systematic and deliberate destruction committed by Israel and it's Western allies. Nevertheless, we want to evoke a hopeful vision, free from colonialism and where the people from Gaza will blossom again."

Our lastest wall painting on the facade of the new library of @laguarimba in Amantea - Calabria, southern Italy. We wanted to create a funky pattern of freehand characters including collaborations of some directors and festival crew members. Thanks to everyone who was part of it, we had a blast 💙
