It’s Sunday! Time for Flea Market Finds!

Sometimes it doesn’t work out. Short version- I got an email from the Coney Island USA folks to do a poster for their Mermaid Parade. I was thrilled! I love all the exciting, arty, sideshow inspired events they put on. “We don’t have much money” -no problem I responded. I looked at their previous posters (you can Google) and went with the same theme of a lighthearted festival fun featuring an attractive mermaid. The pencils were sent off with the note that I’ll be happy to make any revisions or go in a different direction. “We love it!” Was the reaction. Just a few tweaks were requested including giving the mermaid a top hat, cane and cuffs. I went to finish and sent off the file. “We would like a black background and a few other changes.” No problem- I sent off a rough placement for approval then reinked and recolored it. Upon the new art arriving I was told, “we think the top hat, cane and cuffs look too ‘Playboy’. We want a poster of a Gorgon instead. I said that at this point I’m going to need to charge more. “I’m not sure we’re going to be able to come to a resolve, please invoice us for half the fee.”was the reply. So they won’t be using it. I wish Coney Island USA all the best in everything they do and only sorry that they won’t be having me join in. The good news is that if anyone needs a poster for their mermaid event, I’ve got some art for you! :-)
