Production has wrapped on ‘For the Boys’! An enormous and very heartfelt thanks to the partners of Footy Shorts - @wearevicscreen x @afl x @melbfilmfest - for affording us the chance to bring this poignant and special story to life. From the get go, it has been one of those unicorn projects that builds and builds and builds. From early development through to production, @mitchbrownie and @kecklou have been beyond generous with their time, spirit and trusting us with such an intimate, personal story. The crew (aka The Dream Team) all brought their own genius and vibe to set, making this not only a hoot to shoot, but the very essence of what I love about making films - a collaborative process of discovery and immersion. CREW LIST Director / Producer: @mitchellwwithers Producer: @viegas.sofia DOP: @samuelkostevc 1st AC: @pashrash Sound: @teepeesmee & @davidrossss BTS Stills: @melissacowanphotography & @they.muse @viegas.sofia deserves a special shout out for pulling off the seemingly impossible and wrangling locations, access and approvals on a very tight timeframe without skipping a beat. Also a unicorn of a creative partner. Huge thankyou also to: The almighty @oldbarunicornsfc and @pub_footy for allowing us to capture the blissful community they champion. Now into the edit with the maestro himself, @joshyong.editor The film will premiere at MIFF in August this year.

Stoked to announce our documentary short, ‘For the Boys’, will premier at MIFF this year as part of the Footy Shorts MIFF x AFL x Vic Screen 2026 Program. The spine of the film is Mitch Brown’s journey reconciling his relationship with the game of football. Aussie Rules can be a polarising cultural touch point, you’re either all in or all out, but @mitchbrownie speaks to the grey with such earnestness and play. His generosity of spirit throughout the entire production process has allowed this film to evolve into something very special. Enormous gratitude to the dream Production Team that have and continue to bring the magic together: Director / Producer: Mitchell Withers Producer: Sofia Viegas - @viegas.sofia DOP: Samuel Kostevc - @samuelkostevc 1st AC: Cecelia Hedditch - @pashrash Sound: Tim Smith & David Ross - @teepeesmee @davidrossss BTS Stills: Mellissa Cowan & They Muse - @melissacowanphotography @they.muse Filming wraps this weekend with Mitch’s first return to football since coming out publicly, joining the mighty @oldbarunicornsfc Pub Footy Match this Saturday 2nd at 2:45pm (Victoria Park).

Been laying very low on the socials as I process the first months of dadhood. However! Yesterday, (Sunday 17th March) Out in the World screened at the Bendigo Queer Film Festival, the longest-running regional queer film festival in Australia alongside some incredible shorts from around the world. The next screening is at the Pivotonian in Geelong on Sunday, 28th April at 4:30pm as a part of the @geelongpridefilm . Hope to see some familiar faces there! ❤️ Director/ Editor: Mitchell Withers Produced by: Mitchell Withers & @finglesin Cinematography: Josh Waddell Additional Location Sound: Ryan Hickey Sound Design: @tommallum Colorist: @niklasmalkin.colour Made possible by: @vichealth

It is with great amounts of joy and gratitude that I can today announce we found a home for the premiere of Out In the World! This April, the young people who gave so much of themselves in the process will get their moment to be celebrated – finally. We couldn’t be happier that @geelongpridefilm will hold the first public screening of the film. It has been a convoluted and chaotic journey to find a home for this film, steeped in the perils of bureaucracy and box-ticking exercises that fail to connect to the human experience. This announcement is so meaningful as these young people truly deserve this. Societally, we tend to pedestal ‘bravery’ and ‘courage’ as grandiose moments of heroics, but the earnestness, honesty and genuine kindness this film captures I believe epitomise this. The strength to be true to who you are despite binary notions of right and wrong and the generosity of spirit to share this with broad audiences. It is beautiful, hopeful and liberating to us all. More details to come, but if you are in Geelong between the 18th and 28th of April, please do buy tickets. We want a packed house to celebrate the wisdom of some brave, courageous young people.
