LERWICK, SCOTLAND - JANUARY 27: The Jarl squad march through the streets of Lerwick at the culmination of Up Hell march on January 27, 2026 in Lerwick, Scotland. The Lerwick Up Helly Aa fire festival is part of a wider season of 11 fire festivals across Shetland that run from January through March. The day begins with morning marches by the Jarl Squad, who then make civic and community visits throughout the day. In the evening, around 1,000 costumed “guizers”, including women and girls, participate in a torchlit procession, hauling a replica Viking galley through the streets of Lerwick. The event culminates in the dramatic galley burning, where participants throw their flaming torches into the longship, followed by all-night celebrations. LIVERPOOL, ENGLAND - SEPTEMBER 29: The Labour Party gathered at the ACC Liverpool for its annual conference on September 29, 2025 in Liverpool, England. The Labour Conference is being held against a vastly different backdrop to last year when the party had swept to power in a landslide general election victory. A year on and polling shows three quarters of Britons (74-77%) say they have little to no trust in the party on the cost of living, immigration, taxation, managing the economy, representing people like them, or keeping its promises. JEDBURGH, SCOTLAND - SEPTEMBER 23: The self-styled “African tribe” is due to be evicted from privately-owned land in the Scottish Borders for a second time on September 23, 2025 in Jedburgh, Scotland. Members of a self-styled tribe, The Kingdom Of Kubala, Kofi Offeh, 36, who calls himself King Atehene, Jean Gasho, 24, the self-styled Queen Nandi, and their ‘handmaiden’ Kaura Taylor, remain in living in woodland in the Scottish Borders despite receiving two eviction notices from the council. The trio have been camped out in Darnic Woods claiming the land was stolen from ancestors of King Atehene 400 years ago. 21-year-old Kaura Taylor had been reported missing from her hometown in Dallas with her family saying she has been brainwashed.
