“The Florida Highwaymen” exhibition is now open. The Highwaymen were a group of Black artists from the area around Fort Pierce, FL who, starting in the 1950s, supported themselves by painting the Florida landscape and selling them from their cars along local roadways. In the Jim Crow South this provided them with higher incomes than other available work. Despite the quality of the best work few museums, and none in NYC, have any in their collections. In collaboration with @jeremyscholar #floridahighwaymen
The Florida Highwaymen now open, Wednesday through Saturday and by appointment.
