Time for my annual personal Instagram post, and if you can believe it, my band is going on tour again! Look at this poster! 13 shows in 16 days! We're driving the long way from Toronto to Banff! We have to get an oil change mid-tour because it's going to be like ten thousand kilometres! Anyways, I'm really excited about this - and if you live in or near one of these cities, come on out to a show and I promise I'll make it worth your while. Okay that's it for now! Among Legends is going on tour starting this Friday! Bye!

A few photos of my grandparents from a family-reunion-style thing in 2016. My grandmother passed away just before this past Christmas, and my grandfather followed her about four months later, last weekend. I snapped these in 2016 to celebrate their wedding anniversary (60th maybe?) and to spend time together while my grandmother’s dementia was in its early stages and she could enjoy reminiscing with all of us. My favourite is the third photo: to me, my grandfather looks proud to be standing beside my grandmother, while her expression has always seemed both happy and sad. Maybe a mixture of having a fun time with kids and grandkids for the weekend, while also knowing why we chose to organize a big get-together when we did. Two Dutch immigrants who made a life in Canada and raised a pretty great family (I am biased but hey). Please enjoy an abridged biography of their lives in this extremely silly song I wrote a few years ago to thank them for their support of my band - a song which features very poor interpretations of classical songs they would recognize. My grandfather’s exact words were “you and your band are very inventive” which provided absolutely zero insight into whether he liked it or not and continues to make me laugh to this day: /kickstarter/jaap-willy/

I think about music every waking minute of my day. I think about music in the middle of the night when I should be sleeping but I woke up because my brain is just playing some part of some song over and over. Every sentence you say to me reminds me of the lyrics of a song and now I'm thinking about that song and I have zoned out from what you're saying (sorry). I am never, ever not thinking about music. My band is an outlet for a bunch of that focus, but it also made me realize I wanted to do more with music. We've had great support and built a bunch of amazing relationships over the past few years, so last winter I pitched the idea of starting a record label to my friend Sara, who drums for our band. I am extremely grateful she didn't laugh at the idea, and here we are - roughly a year later, where I am very proud to present to you: Steady Riot Records. The name comes from a song we've both loved for a long time - it's a song about the strong, important friendships that people build around a shared passion for music, the kind of friendship that I think created this possibility in the first place. This is a record label created by two people who are obsessed with music and want to provide bands we like with a chance to get the same support we've received so far, so they can take *their* obsession with music wherever they want it to go. Our first release will be out late spring / early summer - it's a band I really like, and the producer is going to blow your mind. If you're in a band and you have music coming out in 2023 or 2024, let's talk! And, hey - follow @steadyriotrecords if you want to see what's going on. (big thanks to @millermalkman for the rad logo!)

My neighbourhood has a little free library, but for records instead of books. Dropped off an LP and a couple CDs last night - hoping these get passed around the community (and beyond) by folks who like the music! If you see a copy in the wild, let us know!

You've prooooobably seen me post a million times about this, but just in case you haven't: My band is releasing our first full-length record this summer, with the support of a few record labels. The first single is streaming now, and we have actual, real-life vinyl records (and very cool shirts) for sale at amonglegends.com. I'm insanely proud of the record and I hope you'll take a moment to check it out. More spam of my band to come!

The very first punk show I ever went to was Less Than Jake at the Phoenix when I was 13 years old. Support from Rock N Roll Soldiers, Damone, someone I can't remember, and A Wilhelm Scream. I was *terrified* of the AWS mosh pit - but the music was wicked. After the show I found some of their albums and pretty quickly fell in love with Ruiner. Fast-forward to last night - my 2nd time seeing AWS with a chance to get Ruiner on vinyl. But the icing on the cake was getting a chance to meet the whole band to tell them that story, and having them offer to sign the record. Felt like a kid meeting an idol. Incredible night.

Last Days of Summer // Last Days on Montrose Buying a house is exciting, but saying goodbye to a neighbourhood that feels like home is tough. So I took a few muggy nights away from packing and tried to snap photos of the places that feel unique to where Amber and I lived for the past three years.
