MITANOHA: “The world is my oyster!”
This is the final piece in the Mitanoha mega-commission. Each resource is ready for Mitanoha to rebrand, and my time doing character designs and concept art has come to an end. The final part of the work (and the piece that destroyed my Photoshop’s scratch disks) is this key visual for Mitanoha’s new design! Easily one of the most complex pieces I’ve ever made, I’ve combined almost every skill I’ve studied over the past few years including 3D modelling to create this.
Upon completion of the work, I felt a wave of relief and accomplishment wash over me. It’s strange - I had lived for so long working on Mitanoha’s artwork, it was a little strange to be not working on it. It’s common amongst creatives - the whiplash from not having a large project can be strong. On the other hand, I suppose there is another big project waiting for me on the horizon: Tomorrow, I’m moving to Japan for five months for study. It’s not really an art project, but it kind of is. I think that life itself is a sort of art project, subject to multiple iterations and rigorous formal critique. I’m sure I’m only a couple of sketch lines now, but perhaps at some point I can be colour-blocked and look decent.
I hope you follow Mitanoha too as she transforms from sketch lines to a brilliant and beautiful talent, the glorious likes of which you’ve never even imagined!
