Finally my first actual marathon is on the books. While it definitely didn’t go as planned, it got done. The best way to describe it was a tale of two halves. The first half of the race (actually 15 miles), I was able to stay at my goal pace. But then the elephant in the room decided to rear its ugly head. Trying to run a marathon on a torn plantar fascia and bone spur probably wasn’t the greatest idea in the world, but the damage was already done prior to this so I decided to give it a go. I could tell early in the race that it wasn’t going to be good. By mile 13 the pain was almost unbearable and I told my brother ,
@stangle who was pacing me, that I was going to drop out of the race. He refused to let me quit and stuck by my side even though I tried to get him to run ahead on his own several times. We began just knocking out each mile after that slowly but surely. Jog 4 minutes, walk 1 minute. It was every thing I had to even do this but he kept me sticking to it and eventually we crossed that finish line.
While I am left unsatisfied and deflated following this effort after spending all summer training for this one race, I am thankful that my brother was there by my side through it all and our bond is even stronger because of it.
I am thankful for my training buddies who crushed their own individual races.
@kiki_putman and
@csm.ocr both running their first marathons as well and putting up awesome times!
@keanonmontgomery pushing himself to the limit and going on alone when I had to drop back. So proud of all of you and thankful for all the miles we logged together.
I truly appreciate those that came out to support us as well and hang out in the miserable weather conditions.
@ohsherunnin thank you for being there despite me trying to talk you out of it 20 times.
@runwild_livehappy @mollbearer @d.ankrom @brandi.m.bryan thank you so much for standing out in the rain cheering us on all morning!!! It meant a ton.
Now to reset, hopefully have surgery soon and get on the road to recovery for 2026. While I hoped to be a one and done for my marathon career, there’s no way I can leave it like this.
