Being a children’s book writer is truly a dream job! I get to create magical adventures and unforgettable characters that spark kids’ imaginations and inspire their creativity. It’s especially rewarding to craft characters that look like us, helping children see themselves in the stories they love. Every tale not only entertains but also teaches valuable lessons. Recently, I had to build a brand strategy deck and part of it meant telling my own story. That’s when it hit me: I’ve done so much work… without documenting it. My work lives at the intersection of leadership, reputation, and influence. But beyond the titles and outcomes, I had a real epiphany: no one can take away my work ethic. And that? That’s everything.

Went to the store this week and requested a ride. The driver canceled — then somehow reported me as a minor . Uber, do I look 12?! I’ve earned this ice cream! 🤣

When I begin a children’s story, I set myself a mission: to breathe a lost African art or custom into its pages. It is my small way of bringing back pieces of our childhoods and the traditions that shaped us. I loved writing the scene in Imani and The Wiggly Tooth where Imani and her mother tossed her tooth onto the roof. A simple but important African ritual that is slipping from our memories. As an African children’s author, it was important for me to include that moment, because this is becoming a forgotten tradition among us. My hope is that, by writing more, I can revive these memories and traditions through characters and stories for African children. šŸ“ø: @blackimagegh #childrensbooks #africanchildrensbooks #representationmatters #africanchildrensbooks #africanchildrenbookauthors #storytelling
