We are excited to present the work of our life drawing group in an open-entry exhibition celebrating the class’s 15th anniversary. The exhibition showcases a wide variety of figure drawings from our weekly sessions, capturing both short and long poses. Our life drawing class has occupied art galleries and event spaces in Melbourne’s CBD since 2008. In 15 years, the class has brought thousands of creative and curious minds together to draw the human form at No Vacancy Gallery (2008-2015), Thousand Pound Bend (2014), and Missing Persons (2016-2023) in the Nicholas Building. Join us for the opening party on Thursday 28 September from 6pm to 8pm to commemorate a crystal jubilee.

Matilda Berger 'Fleeting Life' 2023 1:00min Stop Motion Under Camera Animation, paper cutouts, cardboard, electronics, projector and canvas. Images: @mattmcq_ Matilda Berger’s 'Fleeting Life' highlights the quotidian of the everyday. By using an under camera animation technique, the work is created using paper cutouts that are photographed above a light box. Inspired by the early shadow animations of the 1920s, 'Fleeting Life' depicts three familiar scenes: a goldfish swimming in a bowl, a woman dancing to a record, and an elderly person nodding off in front of a TV. Observed through the windows of an art deco apartment block, the looping scenes offer a momentary snapshot of a trio of unrelated storylines. ‘Fleeting Life’ is made entirely from recycled paper, cardboard, and reused materials. MOVING PICTURE WORLD is on exhibition until 22 June 2023. See Matilda Berger, Lucy Davidson, Amy Manson, Kate Isobel Scott exhibition today from 12–6pm. @lucy_maree_davidson @kateisobelscott @dasvidaniya_ @tilbertini MOVING PICTURE WORLD is an initiative led by Missing Persons to increase the visibility and exhibition opportunities of emerging women artists in the Australian arts, supported by the City of Melbourne @cityofmelbourne

Lucy Davidson ‘THE CO-PY CONSPIRATOR’ 2023 1:50min Pixilation Mixed Media Stop Motion Animation created for Music Video ‘Woomera’ by Pinch Points (exhibited with no sound), timber, iPad, electronics and aluminum foil. Image: @mattmcq_ ‘THE CO-PY CONSPIRATOR’ is a playful new work by Lucy Davidson that combines her stop motion animation and a miniature sculptural photocopier. Lucy has hand-made the space-age style machine to create a unique viewing platform for the work. Using similar materials as the animation – aluminium foil, paper cutouts, and collage techniques, Lucy’s stop motion animation is inspired by the paper cutout style of Terry Gilliam. A music video for local band ‘Pinch Points’, the heads of members Jordan, Acacia, Isabella and Adam are free-floating in space (as planets) surrounded by countless and unrelated worldly objects (space junk ideas). Lucy’s animation premiered at The Fantastic Film Festival in Melbourne 2022 where it was awarded Best Musical Interpretation. MOVING PICTURE WORLD is on exhibition until 22 June. See the works of Matilda Berger, Lucy Davidson, Amy Manson and Kate Isobel Scott TODAY from 12–6pm. @lucy_maree_davidson @kateisobelscott @dasvidaniya_ @tilbertini @pinchpointsband MOVING PICTURE WORLD is an initiative led by Missing Persons to increase the visibility and exhibition opportunities of emerging women artists in the Australian arts, supported by the @cityofmelbourne

Kate Isobel Scott 'Air Head' 2023 3:00min Selected Clay Animations from 2018–2023 (exhibited without sound), glazed earthenware, painted timber, electronics, iPad, and sculptors modelling stand. Images: @mattmcq_ 'Air Head' is a new sculptural work combining Kate’s clay animations (Granny Sneeze, Navigation, Fish, Overground) screened within a ceramic sculptural head that is self-referential. By looking through the holes for its eyes, you’re welcomed inside the mind of the artist. In this playful piece, Kate has experimented with displaying digital animation within hand-built ceramics for the first time. 'Air Head' has a tactile quality that is colourful, wonky and heavily inspired by the nostalgia of eighties and nineties children’s television. MOVING PICTURE WORLD is on exhibition until 22 June 2023. We are open Thursday 22 June from 12–6pm. Thanks to the artists @lucy_maree_davidson @kateisobelscott @dasvidaniya_ @tilbertini This project is supported by the @cityofmelbourne annual arts grants @whatsonmelb

Amy Manson ‘With Love’ 2022
1:32min
Strata-cut Clay Animation (exhibited with no sound), Samsung screen and upholstery fabric. Image: @mattmcq_ For the work ‘With Love’, Amy has used strata-cut animation, shaping clay into patterns layered within a log shaped sculpture. As the log is sliced the animation is created, each slice revealing a frame. As much as it takes a lot of thought and planning, the results are often unexpected and joyous. MOVING PICTURE WORLD Matilda Berger, Lucy Davidson, Amy Manson, and Kate Isobel Scott The exhibition runs until 22 June 2023. Hours: Thursday to Saturday, 12–6pm @lucy_maree_davidson @kateisobelscott @dasvidaniya_ @tilbertini Thanks to the City of Melbourne for their support @cityofmelbourne @whatsonmelb

WAYWORD FORWORD Curated by Collective Effort Press and @_victoriaperin WAYWORD FORWORD is an exhibition of visual (i.e. ‘concrete’) poetry from Collective Effort Press, Melbourne’s legendary poetry collective, established in 1978. This will be a unique opportunity to showcase six neglected senior figures, who have worked together for decades, cultivating a wildly original approach to text-based art. The group grew out of Melbourne’s Poets’ Union and the magazine Fitzrot (1973–1974), a magazine that had begun to pioneer a form of concrete poetry that is, to this day, neglected by local art and literary historians alike. In the words of Jas H. Duke, a founding member of Collective Effort Press, a concrete poem is “a picture made of words and nothing else”. This exhibition presents the work of Arjun von Cammerer, Jas H. Duke, Peter Murphy, π.o., Sandy Caldow and thalia. Join us from 6–8pm on Friday, 5 May for drinks and performances at the opening. The TRASHIE clothing exchange is a recurring event that allows consumers to swap their loved pieces and gain new and exciting items. So what do you do when your favourite shirt isn’t your favourite anymore? Throw it out? Resell it? Do you put it under your bed and forget about it? Most likely… TRASHIE is here to make more room for the Boogieman in your closet and give you a home to exchange with other like-minded hoarders. TRASHIE is created and produced by Katie and Angela Di Fabrizio, two sisters who have spent a large portion of their life fighting over clothing. This event is presented as part of the Fashion and Culture program at @melbfashionfestival Tickets from @trashiexchange or see link in our bio Date: Saturday 4 March, 2–5pm
