‘HERS’ Black and Queer coexistence A black queer individual, exploring the socialization and coming of age of a black queer woman in Britain with the support of her partner. Showing the couple’s relationship without resulting to sexual intimacy due to the heavy sexualization of black queer women in today’s media, focusing on the platonic and wholesome moments. There are many concepts in life that the black community may frown upon especially with the church being a significant part of black families, for example the demonization of music specifically hip-hop despite black people being the reason for the popularization of said music genre. And an impactful one, being queer. The message I want to protrude with this project is that your blackness and queerness can coexist.. Pushing the agenda that your two identities can co-inside, as there isn’t a handbook on ‘how to be black, black comes from all different walks of life. I want to convey the importance of staying connected with your culture even though your culture may not accept every part of you. Through all this showing what makes ‘her’ who she is.
