Health update - a year in review Today, March 12, 2026, I’ll receive infusion #7 of my second round of chemotherapy and immunotherapy as part of a clinical trial that targets a certain protein in participants’ tumours. My tumors have shrunk and through I still have a torso dotted with cancer, and pain and nausea, my meds are working, the masses have decreased, and I am stable. Yay, science! Yay, BC Cancer! One year ago exactly, on March 12, 2025, I received my first infusion of chemotherapy and immunotherapy. It was physically hard in ways I’ve kind of partitioned off. I barely remember the pain but my body hasn’t forgotten. That arduous experience was capped off by the devastating news that my tumors were growing. Chemo failed, my cancer spread, and I spent months afraid of dying. Time is weird and a lot of things about cancer are absurd, but I’m feeling this anniversary in a big way. Since the recurrence I have known that my cancer isn’t curable but it is treatable. I’m so lucky and I never take that for granted. I’m still afraid, of course, but I’ve worked through a lot of things thanks to BC Cancer counseling and so many loved ones showing up and taking care of me. Carlos, my Chemo Club, my family, my friends, folks here who have sent kind messages — cancer takes a village. Thank you all. I’m also very hopeful thanks to the ongoing success of this clinical trial. There’s no end in sight for my treatment so I’ll be living in three-week cycles for awhile, but I’m alive and I’m so grateful for that. Hi 💖 Yesterday I found out my recent CT scan shows a small amount of spread/growth in some of my tumors. I’m not surprised as I’ve had more pain the last three weeks. My body is great at telling on itself.  My oncologist is super proactive and we’re switching to a different chemo immediately starting today. We’ll likely do six cycles of this new treatment and reassess (unless something else crops up before then). I’m disappointed that the clinical trial didn’t work but there might be others in my future and I’m grateful for immediate alternatives. This is the responsive healthcare everyone deserves.  Yesterday’s waiting room playlist was as aggressively mid as this news. At least there’s always the music. Long live this wild, cursed, hilarious algo.
