Queer Combat is a free weekly class hosted by and for queer and trans folks. Our curriculum has roots in different combat arts, including Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Muay Thai, but at its heart it is about self-defense and communal protection.
All classes are beginner friendly. Please wear comfortable clothes you can work out in without zippers or spikes. Masks will be required and available at the door.
1st and 3rd Fridays of the month is Ground Fighting (Grappling/Wrestling)
2nd and 4th Fridays of the month is Striking (Boxing/Kickboxing)
5th Fridays of the month, whenever there is one, is Community Self-Defense.
This space was built on the basis of community and solidarity; we continue to stand by that through these trying times.
Thank you to @tractionproject for your continued partnership ðð―
We've got some swaps for Queer Combat for the next 2 weeks due to instructor availability. Tonight (May 15th) will be Striking and next Friday (May 22nd) will be Ground Fighting. Hope to see you there!
Some Lycan Misfits got belt upgrades and now we have 5 black belts on the mats on the weekly. Congratulations @giantwasabi on your black belt and @lotus_flour25 on your brown belt.
We're exited to announce our next FREE community workout: Jeet Kune Do striking fundamentals with Michele Korb @drmichelekorb
Michele has been training martial arts for over 28 years. She holds a brown belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and a second degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do. In addition to her skills on the mat, she is a passionate jazz musician, a science professor, and a cherished member of our community.
Jeet Kune Do is a blend of 23 different martial art styles devised by Bruce Lee. It allows for adaptations on the part of the user to respond to multiple scenarios and personal attributes. This class will specifically focus on striking, and is open to all-levels.
When: Sunday, May 24th, from 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm.
Address: 1001A 46th St, Emeryville
Free. No RSVP necessary. Please arrive 5 - 10 minutes early to sign a waiver if you are new to our space. Athletic wear / workout clothing suggested. Boxing gloves and pads will be provided. Finally, please always wear shoes when exiting the mat. Bare feet and socks are OK on the mat.
See you there! ðĨ
