Gene Roddenberry took the world we live in, with all its injustices, all its problems, and gave us hope for something better. He created an inspiring philosophy that has helped me become a better person, wanting to live and create a world worth living in. Not only has it helped me work through my struggles with mental health, but helped me heal, and inspired me to create art to help others in the same way. Star Trek has shown me that no matter who we are, where we are from, or what we are experiencing, that there is hope and space for everybody. @theroddenberryfoundation @roddenberryofficial

“Space for Everybody” 2026 will be the 60th anniversary of @startrek , marking it with an incredible theme: Space for Everybody. It is an invitation to celebrate the future that Star Trek aspires to. A future of inclusion, hope, exploration, and boldness. The franchise has shown us the goodness within humanity and that we can come together to solve the earths problem of greed and create a world where all children know how to read. It’s a future where, at its core, all are accepted and celebrated for the diversity they bring. With the recent announcement of the LEGO group’s partnership with Star Trek, many Trekkies are excited to see what is to come.

“It is possible to commit no mistakes and still lose. That is not weakness. That is life.” This came from an episode when Data, an Android, was unable to beat a humanoid at a game of strategy. Captain Picard encourages Data that to be human is to make mistakes and learn from them. That it is not failure to lose, but an opportunity to learn. Follow me and continue to see me create iconic Star Trek characters and captains out of LEGO.

Captain Janeway, always an inspiration and Kate Mulgrew deserves to be commemorated for her role with an art piece done in LEGO. Star Trek will always have my heart. Captain Janeway is the definition of leadership.

Star Trek and Lego, in they order, have been instrumental in my mental health. Star Trek for its aggressively positive outlook on a future where we remove war, greed, and prejudice from our culture. Lego MOC building is a repetitive and cathartic meditative exercise that helps me slow down from the urgency of life. I’m still here with a big thanks to people who invested their lives into creating art. Good art moves you to be a better person. Great art gives you the energy to move forward. Excellent art inspires you to create yourself. Together, we can build a better world.

The Star Trek starship Voyager built entirely out of LEGO. This mosaic was therapeutic and used well over 8000 pieces.

Star Trek Voyager has some of the most profound episodes in all of Star Trek. Namely Muse (VOY 6.22), Nemesis (VOY 4.4), and Critical Care (VOY 7.5). Star Trek is so much more than a TV show. It’s inspiring and it has always helped me become a better person.

Star Trek Voyager has an episode called Nemesis (S. 4, E. 4). Where commander Chakotay’s shuttle crashes on a planet riddled with war. One of the factions captures him and forces him to take in propaganda that turns him into someone who wishes nothing more than their destruction. He is later rescued and comes into contact with a member of the other faction and can’t bear to look at him. As he is walking away he says, “I wish it were as easy to stop hating as it was to start.” War rips our world to shreds and I’ll always be an advocate for ways of peace over the use of the stick.

In 2020 the world began to shutdown and I started a mental health journey that would lead me to a place of growth. I didn’t even share pictures of my car getting totaled, having to sell my house, experiencing an abusive relationship after my divorce. There were countless other events where I wanted to give up. During this time I met my best friend, discovered birding, built strong and new friendships, and discovered a new life where I’ve learned to focus more on solutions over problems. LEGO was part of this, and through it I moved to being focused on collecting to creating pieces that best described what was happening inside of me. I got through it by discovering something during the greatest period of my mental health struggle. If I could go back and share all that would happen to me, I would tell myself that “you’re going to be ok.” Various photo credit to @flywrightphotography

Star Trek has hope. Star Trek has given me more than a fun show to watch when I have downtime. With over 900 episodes, it has some of the most quotable moments among all of the science fictions I enjoy. The quotes are ones of hardship, frustration, joy, grief, and hope. The hope Star Trek gives me far exceeds any other science fiction series or movie I’ve seen. I highly recommend it. This piece was build with nearly 10,000 LEGO elements and I decided to have it part of this months #letsbuildmosaicsonmonday as part of @mosaics.on.monday and the @letsbuildseries .
