The most culturally significant place in European history ⬆️
Athens was the birthplace of Western philosophy, democracy, debate, drama (comedy and tragedy), and to a large extent, art and architecture.
All within a 15km2 radius (urban Athens)…
And 100 key years (500-400BC).
Grateful for the Athenians 🌞
I’m holding one of the most virtuosic novels ever written...
Which is also one of the most disturbing.
I’ve two new videos out on it...
And apparently, nearly half of all viewers are watching them on a tv??
Sickk
On this video I made a great discovery…
Video essay views are (apparently) correlated with Google searches for the movie the essay was about.
On Jan 19:
My video on Song to Song (2017) got 35k views.
Also on Jan 19:
There were more Google searches for Song to Song than any other day that month…
Plus a big increase on the 12 month average.
Today, my video has 350k views.
If only 1% of those viewers rented or streamed the film, that would be 3.5k streams…
Or, assuming each rental is worth $3…
$10.5k in revenue for the studio.
The implication of this is beautiful:
Video essays are a win-win for creators AND IP holders.
Commentary doesn’t ‘steal’ IP…
It sends new audiences to it.
500k views for Buster Keaton!! And an important lesson:
B&W thumbnails = playing YouTube on hard mode...
Turns out there’s a good reason why gigantic channel thumbs use as many primary colours as possible
