When a man steps forward with steadiness and a woman responds with trust, both take part in something virtuous: the renewal of order, reverence, and authentic human connection. To dance requires courage and humility together (whether you’re good at it or not). It invites each person to move with purpose, to encounter another through presence rather than words, and to remember what communion feels like. The 5 most important lessons I’ve learned since founding DC Social Collective in 2021: 1. People crave real, in-person connection. That’s what our events provide in a city that often feels career-driven and shallow. 2. When someone chooses our event over the countless other plans they could have had that night, it might have saved them from something bad. 3. Watching marriages, friendships, and countless connections grow out of our events proves this mission is worth living for. 4. Building a brand isn’t just a logo or name. It’s a mirror of your personality, character, and soul. 5. There will always be people who try to exploit your success. To the 152 unread text messages in my phone, the 12 google calendar invites I haven’t accepted, the wonderful women who said “you’re really a great guy but…”, to Chris Adams who refuses to tan with me on the beach this weekend in the DR, to my third grade teacher who corrected my pronunciation of “mature” to “Matooer” and said “Can you go to the bathroom? Or MAY you go to the bathroom?” when asking for a hall pass, to the bartender at Velocity Wings in Manassas who called me and said I left my credit card at the bar at 3 AM in 2022, to my plug in college who’s got a 15 year sentence now, just know that every now and then, I think of you, and hold you dear to my heart. The leaves are changing, pumpkin spice lattes are so back, and pretty soon you’re gonna be like, “Wait, why am I still single again?” And gurl… instead of cuddling a pumpkin spice latte and curling up in bed by 8 to read the book “When It’s Time to Become a Nun”, you could be twirling in heels, stealing someone’s flannel, and texting your group chat “he might actually be cute?? All he talks about is the gym though..” before the night’s even over. Sangria y Salsa shattered every record we’ve ever set. 645 people stormed The Winery at Bull Run and turned it into the DMV’s largest Latin dance floor for 2025. No seriously we checked the stats… this was the largest Latin dance event in Virginia this year. Time to pat ourselves on the backs like we learned in 2nd grade… cause that’s what led us here. Production barn? Stuffed wall-to-wall. Hundreds learning from salsa assassins @judemzel & @xoxo_tara . Honestly probably the only duo in Northern Virginia who could make that crowd move like pros in under an hour. Serious performers fr. Then the @mrosadomusic lit up the night. Live set so electric it dragged 300 dancers outside and packed the entire vineyard. And just when you thought the night peaked… @djsensualsoundz pulled up with the most unhinged hype energy of all time. The man says he’s a DJ (correct) but he’s also an actual cartoon character that escaped into real life. He’ll scream your name, dance with your girl, and post the same IG story 15 times with each one hitting just like the first. Even WE weren’t ready, but we were. We prepped since elementary school for this. Every corner of the winery = flooded. Every glass of sangria = emptied. Every body = moving. An absolute MADHOUSE and CULTURAL RESET that attracted half of Centreville and Manassas. Right at 6:30, the skies cleared. A double rainbow stretched over the vineyard. And the biggest event in DC Social Collective history began. After hours of downpour, the rain stopped the moment doors opened. Over 450 incredible people danced, laughed, and lit up The Winery at Bull Run with pure joy. We started this in 2021 with a simple mission: build real community rooted in joy, beauty, and shared values.
