When you search for information on this topic, many people include the amount of carbon emissions it costs to raise the animal, which is a irrelevant point when the skin is being burned if it is not tanned. This is an important point to take into account when viewing the true cost of leather. Chromium based leathers are polluting, however they still degrade. You have to consider leather lasts for years and years and years when properly maintained, it’s not fair to say it’s 50% less costly to produce a “vegan” plasticizer based leather when its lifespan is not even 10% of the lifespan of well maintained leather goods
