As a long-standing supporter of The Mindcraft Project, @vola.denmark remains closely connected to the evolving Danish design scene. VOLA represents a distinctive chapter in Danish design history. The first VOLA taps were created in 1968 by the renowned architect Arne Jacobsen for the National Bank of Denmark in Copenhagen. To this day, every VOLA tap is manufactured in Denmark at the company’s factory in Horsens, underscoring a continued commitment to craftsmanship and local production. We asked VOLA’s long-serving Sales and Marketing Director, Birthe Tofting, about Denmark’s design heritage, the company’s international perspective, and the future direction of Danish design. Ray by AHM x LUND / @ahmlund With a circular geometry that references the growth patterns of a tree, Ray champions the individual characteristics of Oregon pine through its large scale, allowing the timber's natural texture and grain to become the hero. By concealing LED lighting within a slit to one side of its circular form, Ray conveys a feeling of peeking into the soul or spirit of pine wood, treating the material as alive and present within its environment. The result is a lamp that is equal parts sculpture and illuminant through a form that challenges traditional lighting typologies. RO by Anne Dorthe Vester / @annedorthevester The RO stools by Anne Dorthe Vester explore form and materiality through a single production method – pressure moulded timber veneer. Sculptural in appearance and precise in construction, three curved laminated veneer surfaces are combined with the use of screws and a central stainless steel joint. FIG 02 and FIG 03 by Lærke Lillelund / @la____el FIG 02 and FIG 03 explore concepts of system, scale and shape through suspended sculptural forms that combine a mixture of tradition and contemporary textile techniques and structural interventions. Both pieces are connected through their use of traditional Japanese shibori techniques that utilise heat-setting and fabric manipulation to create three-dimensional textile components. Strata by Kasper Kyster / @kasperkyster Kasper Kyster began Strata by investigating modularity through two simple forms. With an aim to remove the complexities of modular lighting – both visually and technically, Strata instead focuses on simplicity in form, construction and installation. Strata has the ability to multiply and grow across multiple axes, and re-configure itself from a free-standing light source to a floating pendant. The frosted acrylic gives Strata its soft glow. Infill Works by Hilda Piazzolla / @hildapiazzolla Infill Works is a collection of sculptural objects created from 3D printed ceramic. Generally hidden away or discarded, infill patterns are utilised as structural components and supports when 3D printing complex forms. Rather than being removed, Piazzolla allows her unique digital compositions to express their innate sculptural qualities when transformed into physical ceramic objects.
