On this day 22 years ago mindat.org was first launched to the world. What started as Jolyon Ralph's personal hobby project has now become the most important online mineralogy resource out there. Thanks to everyone who has helped over the years to make the site into what it is today, and let's look forward to the next 22 years!

Attention to those attending Tucson mineral show this years and interested in geology/mineralogy/etc books/magazines! Getting ready! Opening officially on Friday but I will be open from TOMORROW (Tuesday) strictly by appointment only for the serious book fanatics Did I tell you we have two runs of MinRec to sell, both with all the rare original early issues? One covers Vol 1-22 complete with early volumes bound, the other goes up to vol 47 with first 20 leather bound and complete up to vol 37, some issues missing after that. Also have most years of Rocks and Minerals from 1955 to 2012 being sold per year. And full run of Lapis 1976 (vol 1) to 2006 sold as a set

If you go to the Natural History Museum in London this is something you WON'T see on display. This beautiful proustite crystal from Chanarcillo in Chile is locked away in a dark box under one of the cabinets and is only brought out on very rare occasions for special guests to see. It was bought around 1911 and has stayed locked away out of public view for a hundred years. Why? This very rare silver mineral is light sensitive, and if left out on display would soon go dark and opaque. To preserve its beauty we cannot let people see it. A shame, but a wonderful privilege for us who are lucky enough to get a chance to see it.
