I'm graduating! It's been a journey, a year's journey and a worthy one at that. We began with three weeks practice pitch sessions, and mentorship. This moved on to a discovery programme, then a bootcamp, a Proof of Concept phase, and lastly a Build phase. The greenLabs incubation programme has been nothing short of amazing. I'd dare say that apart from my team winning the Crowd’s Favourite award at the Consumer Advocacy and Empowerment Foundation (CADEF) Renewable Energy Innovation Challenge in 2024, for our AgroFlow solution, my favourite aspect of the incubation programme was the 8-week Bootcamp phase. The CADEF team, Prof. Chiso Ndukwe-Okafor, MBA, MPA, EdD, facilitators - Somto Nsofor and OLUMIDE AJAYI, and fellow participants, Oreoluwa Fawole, Bola Fawole, Oreoluwa Ajayi, MGBCN, Loveth Walker, Verity Nkor, Favour Ndika, Chiedozie Overcomer, and many others, made this very memorable. The lessons we learnt remains vivid in my mind. Thank you all. Yes! We are graduating! 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐝𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐦𝐬 𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐥𝐲 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐯𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐝. My decision to speak at the TedxOAU event surprised me. It made me realize that the spontaneity with which I make my decisions these days actually scare, but excite me. Former President, Ellen Sirleaf said "𝑰𝒇 𝒚𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝒅𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒎𝒔 𝒅𝒐 𝒏𝒐𝒕 𝒔𝒄𝒂𝒓𝒆 𝒚𝒐𝒖, 𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒚 𝒂𝒓𝒆 𝒏𝒐𝒕 𝒃𝒊𝒈 𝒆𝒏𝒐𝒖𝒈𝒉." My paraphrase is "If your decisions do not scare you, they are not strong enough." One thing is funny though, I thought it was something I made up my mind on at that moment, but it was something that had been building up. A while after I had gotten the confirmation email from the Tedx team, I sat reflecting in my room on all I've done this year, with work, meeting new people, learning new things, and I looked at the board hung on my wall. Earlier in the year, I had drawn up a vision board, including feats that I wanted to achieve before the year ran out. At a little corner on that board, I had written "Talks like TED". You can imagine my shock! I had actually forgotten I wrote that. So here I was, thinking this was something that just happened, but in fact, it had been building up because I set it as a vision, and consciously or subconsciously, I worked towards it. It's just like 𝐏𝐚𝐮𝐥 𝐂𝐨𝐞𝐥𝐡𝐨 said in The Alchemist, "𝑾𝒉𝒆𝒏 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒘𝒂𝒏𝒕 𝒔𝒐𝒎𝒆𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒈, 𝒂𝒍𝒍 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒖𝒏𝒊𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒔𝒆 𝒄𝒐𝒏𝒔𝒑𝒊𝒓𝒆𝒔 𝒊𝒏 𝒉𝒆𝒍𝒑𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒕𝒐 𝒂𝒄𝒉𝒊𝒆𝒗𝒆 𝒊𝒕." I believe that and it's true. I don't usually have as much conversations on Environment and Climate change as I would like. But, I had a lovely discussion with someone on waste management, and it buttressed the fact that a lot of people are ignorant or unaware about the effects of improper waste disposal, to health and the environment. There is also a need for sufficient waste bins in residential areas, and good enforcement programmes.
