A few flashes from these past months of trying to look after tiny human and myself and doing mildly well at both.
1. Our 1 year wedding anniversary. Still figuring out the art of breastfeeding friendly clothing which honestly eliminates 50% of everything I own
2. Papa becoming grandpapa
3. My two Penwill boys
4. Managing my first gym session post C-section
5. Also learning the art of the multitask. Feel like I’ve nailed this one
6. Still life of the 1st breastfeed of the day
7. Sunlight breaking through the Cape storm
8. Dads, dogs and pups
9. First attempt at a pasty
On the 27/02/2026 we welcomed our sweet boy,
Alexander Edward Penwill into the world ☀️ Born at 42 weeks weighing a bang average 3,380kg and a lengthy 56cm.
I have never felt so physically and emotionally challenged in my entire life. This past week has been the hardest yet, but I know it’s only up (or plateau) from here and I’ll take it. Any silly ideas (mainly pride) I had about this next phase were instantly quashed and I’ve been forced to surrender in a way that I can only be thankful I’ve held out to learning at 32.
No glamour, just gratitude 🌸
Moved neighbourhoods and accidentally found my new go-to pizza spot 🍕
@piccolo_posticino is family-run, authentic Italian pizza & pasta.
This location is takeaway only — perfect for a cozy, no-cook weekend at home.
They’re either call and collect, and on Mr D & Ubereats
Mon- Sat 12pm-8pm
Sunday- 12pm- 7:40pm
Tag me your best topping combo, I’ve already eyed out the aurora for next time
One of the best dining experiences yet at @vuurrestaurant set in the magnificent winelands.
Each dish in the multi-plated course is sourced and foraged locally with a focus on animal based eating(my fave) and its many expressions of chopped, cured, fire roasted, poached, toasted, torched- you name it.
Shaun Scrooby and his team have created a haven of sustainable South African meat centred eating
P.S they do not cut corners on the perfect wine pairings and in house cocktails.
A stellar arvie/evening spent under the oak tree.
1. Lamb cutlet, fruit puree and fire roasted peppers
2. The view!
3. The dining table under previously mentioned magnificent oak
4. Local line fish, dehydrated kale and tomato sauce freshly harvested from the garden
5. Raspberry sorbet amuse bouche again sourced from the garden
6. Beef prime rib on its way to the fire
7. Plating the prime rib and the beef fat roasties
8. My favourite dish cause I’m a basic b!$&….steak tartare
9. Post meal snap with a full baby and belly
Thanks @theglobetrotterguy for hosting 💚🥩🥬🍒
2025 in something smaller than a nutshell cause it was a FULL year. Full of goods and betters and almost no bads but also pregnancy causes memory loss of the bad things apparently so could be hormonally linked delusion.

September- my 1st and last job of the season before becoming too visibly preggy

When I think of Franschoek I do not think of sushi and Asian food, but thanks to @yama_eatery@thecapetownglutton that’ll be the first thing on my mind when I come back
Featured:
The best sushi I’ve ever had in my life called the spicy roll 🍣

Spent the weekend being showered bridal style by a pretty amazing group of girlies, sans a few VIPs who were sorely missed #bridalshower #gettingmarried #midsommar #capetown
