Sareh Imani : When the wind dies down, and the rain grows gentle on view at 56 Henry St.
I was first introduced to Sareh’s work when she was a resident at NARS foundation and her work Kindred Stitches. I remembered our conversation about her family, her father’s background in medicine, and her interests in gardening (her sick cactus). At first, I was surprised to see this new body of work; they are a series of 50x38 inch and 24x18 inch pastel drawings on paper- she’s been working on this since the pandemic as a response to screen-fatigue (when she told me I nodded while remembering how the last time I saw her was 5 years ago)- but now I realize that themes of foraging and investigating have always been present. The drawings invite a kind of slow looking. I thought about Karl Blossfelt’s obsessive logging and the time he spent on his photographs.
