Sauna season is here at Mill Cabin 🤍 It’s the perfect contrast of stepping from the chill into a hot sauna… it just feels so good. We’ve added new robes too — soft, cosy, and made for slow mornings and post-sauna lounging. Snow season is just around the corner, Come and sauna the moment ;) - Robes are from our friends @pony_rider #sauna #visitnsw #australia #snow #snowymountains

We’re thrilled to announce Meagan Streader @meaganstreader as the 2026 Mill Cabin Artist in Residence. Based in Melbourne, Meagan’s interdisciplinary practice sits at the intersection of art, architecture, and design, with a focus on the transformative power of light within built environments. Working across sculpture and installation, her site-responsive works reshape space—challenging how we perceive scale, material, and form. Her work has been exhibited nationally and internationally, including Melbourne Now at NGV Australia, Carriageworks, Dark Mofo, and the Amsterdam Light Festival, alongside major public commissions. Most recently, Meagan was awarded an ISS Institute and George Alexander Foundation Fellowship (2025), and a three-month residency at the Cité Internationale des Arts, Paris, after receiving the Eva Breuer Travelling Art Scholarship through the Art Gallery of New South Wales (2026). During her time at Mill Cabin, Meagan will explore the legacies of historically under-recognised women in contemporary art and modernist design. Drawing inspiration from figures such as Sophie Taeuber-Arp, Eileen Gray, Magdalena Abakanowicz, Anni Albers, and Louise Bourgeois, she will develop a new body of work investigating themes of female empowerment, transformation, time, and resilience. Through sculptural tapestries, collage, and intimate installations using copper wire, LED light, and dichroic materials, Meagan will experiment with reflection, layering, and light—responding directly to the shifting natural light of the cabin and the surrounding Snowy Mountains landscape. This residency marks an exciting and pivotal shift in her practice toward more experimental and evocative work, and we’re honoured to support this next chapter. We can’t wait to see what unfolds. One of the things we love most about the Mill Cabin artist residency is giving people the time and space to slow down, breathe, and really sink into their work. Artist @zoe__makes captured her experience: “My residency at Mill Cabin was a time for deep thinking, slow making and turning inwards. The space and isolation allowed reflections and new ideas that may not have arisen in my usual environment. The building itself was a pleasure to inhabit, the details and aesthetic inspiring and comforting.”

Another chapter in our artist-in-residence story ✨ We loved hosting @christopher_myles whose time at Mill Cabin was shaped by wildlife encounters, slow days, and deep immersion in the landscape. “Staying at Mill Cabin was truly peaceful, the perfect moment away from my normal life and studio practice. The fresh air surrounded by the gum trees and the little visits from the wallabies and the deer was really inspiring, I often think back to how good I felt while I was there :-)” @christopher_myles
