On International Women’s Day, we honour the people who make up 31% of Millar Western’s workforce. The ones who design, build, run, maintain, protect, support, manage, supply, analyze, record, fix and break -- the bias. #IWD2022 #breakthebias
Alberta forestry companies planted 100 million trees this year—that’s 23 trees for every Albertan! Millar Western is proud to contribute to the sustainable management of our forests, planting 7 million of these trees. #100milliontreesplanted #LoveABForests
Millar Western’s Len Bourdin has dedicated his career to enhancing the health and safety of people working within our company, throughout the Alberta forest industry, and in resource sectors across Canada. We’re proud to share that Len’s commitment has now been recognized with the OHS Canada Lifetime Achievement Award. Thanks, Len, for all you do to ensure everyone at Millar Western returns home safe at the end of each shift. And, congratulations on this well-deserved honour!
We are excited to announce that the Forest Products Association of Canada has awarded Green Dream Internships to two of our silviculture summer students. We extend a big congratulations to Sarah Collins and Emmett Benoit, and look forward to sharing their stories this summer.
We recently donated $10,000 to the Fox Creek Hospital Society, supporting the purchase of new ultrasound equipment and enhanced patient care. We’re proud to invest in the health of our employees, families and neighbours in Fox Creek. Kudos to the society on their important work!
Proud to share that our partner organization @ducksunlimitedcanada (DUC) has been awarded a Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) Community Grant for an exciting project! DUC and SFI will be enhancing wetland conservation and engaging communities by providing sustainable forest management guidebooks and training resources to First Nations and Metis communities, and forestry students in Alberta. These training resources are aimed at increasing education, skills development, and green job opportunities, and to enhance DUC’s efforts to preserve wetlands.
Wetlands are critical ecosystems providing clean water and natural flood prevention, so their protection is essential. We are excited to partner with DUC on this and other projects aimed at conserving boreal wetlands -- a collaboration that is helping us integrate more effective wetland and waterfowl conservation into our forest management planning and field operations.
Since 2010, SFI has been awarding grants to support initiatives that encourage community connection to the forest. Millar Western is proudly certified to the SFI sustainable forest management standard, providing our stakeholders with assurance of the responsibility of our forestry practices.
Our flags fly at half mast this week, for the 215 lost children of the Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc First Nation, and for the lost and the survivors of all residential schools. #everychildmatters
