"The Chikaya pack of South Luangwa National Park is currently 13 strong, 4 adults and 8 pups, and has been spending most of its time along the Luangwa River. Earlier this week, we responded to a snaring incident involving one of last year’s pups. A wire snare was tightly wrapped around its neck, but the team was able to safely de-snare the animal. The pup has since rejoined the pack, a huge relief and a testament to how much small interventions matter." - East African Species Program
"In the nursery, among damp soil and small plants, the women began to care for life. Day after day, with patience and dedication, they cultivated not only Polylepis, but hope. Yet it was when walking through the páramo that everything changed. They discovered it was not an empty landscape, but a territory full of colors, birds, and silent stories. Today, every Polylepis tree they plant represents a new bond with nature. It is not just about restoring a forest — it is about recognizing the life that has always been there, and choosing to protect it." - Acion Andia
"We completed the Ungwana Bay survey, covering 28 km of coastline. Our next step is to divide the area into survey blocks that the community patrol teams will use for monitoring marine megafauna and for responding to marine mammal strandings. The survey has also revealed key conservation gaps, which we will review with the community during map validation sessions before patrols begin. Through this effort, we have trained 15 participants in mobile GIS, equipping them to collect data that they can use to monitor environmental changes." - Watamu Marine Association
"As we await spring and the 2026 field season, here’s a Valentine’s tribute to seabirds, some of the animal kingdom’s most devoted partners. Among them are the common murre and the razorbill which gather by the thousands in noisy and crowded colonies, yet many manage to reunite with the same partner each breeding season. Decades of ringing allow us to follow individual birds and their relationships over time, seeing whether they remain with their partner or form new pairs. The murre in the last picture stayed with the same partner for 9 years before later pairing with a younger bird, a partnership that has now lasted 5 years and counting." - Baltic Seabird Project
"Present look of the Mangrove Learning and Research Centre locally called BADAPATH. We are asking everyone to hold on to the Mangrove Learning and Research Centre in order to realise our long-term goal of establishing a Mangrove Conservation Society." - BEDS
"Exciting new bee discovery on the North Cornwall coast 🐝 Surveys undertaken by Buglife and the National Trust - Godrevy to St Agnes at Godrevy Farm, near Gwithian have led to the exciting discovery of the nationally scarce Red Bartsia Bee at the site. 🌼Previously this bee had only been known from one other site in Cornwall where the first Cornish record for the bee in 20 years was made back in 2022." - Buglife
"Fieldwork in the Annamites is hard work. There are no field stations, so the teams need to carry in everything they need for a week or more in the forest, including food and equipment. Often this means carrying heavy packs up and down through mountainous terrain. Here, a team is hiking into a remote location in Quang Binh province to conduct biodiversity surveys. The area is currently unprotected, but holds promise for rare and threatened Annamite species." - Saving Vietnam's Rare Species
"This year begins an exciting chapter of our work; we look forward to sharing what to expect in the coming week. Today (01-21-2026), our team traveled to the South Coast to meet park managers and community members to plan for the year. We also visited the park to run a pre-trial ahead of our 2026 annual marine mammal surveys. We observed several animals with fishing gear injuries, and noted that tourism activities appear to impact dolphins—key focus areas for this year. Together, we aim to conserve marine life and enhance coastal livelihoods!" - Watamu Marine Association
"Amazing news! For more than 25 years, our research has shown that Stora Karlsö and its surrounding coastal and marine areas are vital hotspots for biodiversity, providing essential habitats for seabirds and other wildlife in the Baltic Sea. With this knowledge, the Swedish government has decided to expand the protected area around the island by creating a larger Natura 2000 area. This will strengthen the protection for seabirds and allow ecosystem-based management, including regulating fisheries. It’s a clear example of how long-term ecological research can directly shape conservation policy and safeguard vital habitats for the future." - Baltic Seabird Project
"Project with Bank Indonesia and Diponegoro University WasteX’s rice husk biochar was applied to a 3,600 m² paddy field trial in Grobogan, Indonesia, to drive climate-positive farming. In collaboration with Bank Indonesia and Diponegoro University, WasteX also provided training on proper biochar charging and application. The results show an 80% reduction in total GHG emissions, driven by methane potential decrease from 4,545 to 803 kg CO₂-eq. With rice fields contributing 34% of Indonesia’s agricultural emissions, scaling just 10% of this model could reduce up to 7 million tons of CO₂-eq annually." - WasteX
"We have started a coral restoration trial in Pandaluk Village to test which species of coral are best suited to coral restoration projects. Five Acropora Branching species have been planted on 5 superstars module to help us ascertain which species grows the best under these circumstances." - Blue Alliance
"In the Papua provinces of Indonesia, Indigenous peoples have harvested sago palms which provide a dietary staple -- and a source of income -- from their traditional forests since time immemorial. Pictured here, the processing of sago just after harvesting the palm trees." - Landesa
